The meeting was chaired by the outgoing Chair of the Cardiac Risk in the Young APPG, Amanda Hack MP, and attended by APPG Officers Lord Stuart P***k and Lord Beamish, who, as an MP, helped establish the original APPG and successfully chaired it for many years.
On the agenda was the UK National Screening Committee's live public consultation into young sudden cardiac death and the importance of considering the latest evidence, including CRY's landmark research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology in February 2026.
Stephen and Gill, who hosted a CRY screening event near their home in Lincolnshire just yesterday, where more than 100 young people received potentially life-saving cardiac tests, shared a powerful and poignant account of their personal connection to CRY and their ongoing commitment to campaigning for change in memory of their son, Nathan Bryan.
We are grateful to Sharon Hodgson MP for her time and for the interest she showed in CRY's national screening programme and pioneering research. We particularly welcome her recognition of the scale and impact of young sudden cardiac death on families and communities across the UK.
