On behalf of Sleaford Museum :

Calling all Sleafordians, past and present. We need your help for two projects we are working on!
We are revamping our window display to improve our visitors’ experience. We want to create a display of photos of Southgate through the years but our archive is only so big! If you have any photos of Southgate, please email them to us at [email protected] . Importantly, you must be the photographer or have permission from the photographer for us to use them in the window. The photos will be enlarged so, if you have a digital copy or a negative we could scan, that would be even better, but any photos are greatly appreciated.

Our second request is for any artefacts, information and stories you or your relatives may have about Rauceby Hospital. Any nuggets of information you may have about the historic site would be greatly appreciated by our researchers. We are particularly interested in artefacts that used to be on display in Orchard House. The whereabouts of these are unknown, including the hospital chapel’s bell and the RAF commemorative plaque. Either email the museum or [email protected] or leave any letters with your contact details at Sleaford Museum and we will be in touch!

We are very excited for our upcoming Exhibition Launch next weekend as part of Heritage Open Days. The exhibition, called Joseph Banks: Made in Lincolnshire, has been created and curated by our resident artist and historian Harriott Brand.

Here is Harriott with some of the exhibition materials. She said “This exhibition is a personal collection of thoughts, art and objects about the early years of Sir Joseph Banks at Revesby and the ‘making’ of the man that he became.”

Through art, objects and storytelling, the exhibition looks beyond Banks’ later fame to reveal the young boy growing up at Revesby, exploring the countryside around him and beginning the habits of observation and collecting that would stay with him for life.

So glad to see you open again!

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for all the lovely words of support after the break in on Monday. We had a record number of visitors yesterday, all of which came to wish us the best and say that they were thinking of us after the unfortunate incident.

Repairs are planned in and are already partially underway, but we are open as usual now, so please do pop in and say hello if you're in town. We have our free half-term children's trail on, focusing on the female rulers of England and Great Britain, which is well worth a go, a well as a free craft to get stuck into.
