Why Community Theatre Matters

Community-based theatre is more than just performing on stage, it’s about connection, growth, and shared creativity. Whether you’re stepping into the spotlight or helping behind the scenes, volunteering in local theatre gives you the chance to learn new skills, build confidence, and become part of something truly special.

From lighting and costume to stage management and set design, there are so many ways to get involved. And the great thing is no experience is required! We’ll teach you everything you need to know. All you need is a bit of passion and a willingness to give it a go.

Even better, there’s no charge to join. The only things you need to give are your time, energy, and a willingness to work as part of a team. All roles are voluntary, the rewards, friendship, fun, and a strong sense of community are priceless.

You’ll meet like-minded people, make new friends, and become part of a group with a rich and meaningful history “The Skegness Playgoers”

I started my own journey in community theatre when I was young, and I can honestly say it shaped my entire career. It gave me confidence, helped me grow as a person, and ignited a passion I’ve carried with me ever since.

Now, I’d love to offer the same opportunity to others. Whether you’re brand new or returning, come and join us for a social gathering on Friday 25th April at 7pm. The bar will be open, the welcome will be warm, and there’s absolutely no obligation, just pop in, have a chat, and see what it’s all about.

Bring a friend, come and meet the team, and find out how you can become a valued volunteer and part of the next exciting chapter of Skegness Playgoers.

At this time, we welcome anyone aged 16 and over. Younger members may be considered but will need to be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian.

We’d love to meet you so come and see where it could take you!

Exciting News from Skegness Playgoers!

Hi everyone,

I’m absolutely thrilled (and a little humbled) to share that I’ve officially taken on the role of Chairman of Skegness Playgoers. After some lovely conversations and a genuine desire to keep this wonderful group alive, I’m so pleased to be stepping in to help guide the next chapter.

Skegness Playgoers has a rich and beautiful history in our town—bringing people together, sharing stories, and creating memories both on and off stage. It’s incredibly important we don’t let that legacy fade away, and with your support, I truly believe we can make it thrive again.

Plans are already in motion!
We’ll be staging two brand new productions this year—the first hitting the stage in September, and another festive treat coming in December (more on those soon!).

But more than that, we’re looking to welcome new members, whether you fancy being in the spotlight or supporting behind the scenes. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just fancy trying something new—we’d love to meet you.

We’ll be announcing a get-together very soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Come along for a cuppa, a chat, and find out how you can be part of this exciting new chapter.

Thank you so much for all the kind messages and support already—it means the world. Let’s do something brilliant together.

Much love,
Gary Starr
