Our very own Trevor. Quite the back bone of our station.

Today we caught up with Trevor Holland from the RNLI, and what a lovely story of dedication to our town. 💛

Trevor has been a lifelong RNLI volunteer at Skegness Lifeboat Station, serving as a head launcher and launch vehicle driver, giving so much of his time to helping keep people safe at sea.

In 2024, Trevor was made an Honorary Citizen of Skegness in recognition of his commitment to the town where he grew up.

It’s also a lovely family connection, as Trevor follows in the footsteps of his dad, Ken Holland, an RNLI Coxswain and also an Honorary Citizen of Skegness.

Since the 1970s, only 16 people have received this honour, and Trevor is just the third member of the Skegness RNLI crew to be recognised in this way.

Thank you, Trevor, for everything you and the RNLI do for Skegness and our community. 💛

🎾 All night long… and still going strong! (Well, still going! 😂)

While most of Skegness was tucked up in bed last night, some of our more enthusiastic crew members were busy playing padel… and they haven’t finished yet!

Our intrepid team started their 24-hour padelathon at 6pm yesterday and won’t finish until 6pm tonight. Nearly 16 hours in, legs are getting heavier, eyes are getting sleepier, and volunteering for this probably feels a little less sensible than it did yesterday! 😴😂

It’s all to raise funds for Skegness RNLI and help us continue saving lives at sea. 🧡💙

If you can spare a few pounds, please give our weary players a boost with a donation. Every donation is appreciated—and sharing this post helps too!

Keep going, team, those sofas will still be there at 6pm! 💪

This wonderful young man is Freddie, the son of one of our crew.
Freddie knows what he wants to be when he is older, it’s written on his jacket, Future Crew. He is a little star.

🐟 Weever Fish – What You Need to Know Before Heading to the Beach 🏖️

As the weather warms up and more people head into the sea, it's important to be aware of weever fish – one of the few venomous fish found around the UK coastline. They may be small, but they can deliver an extremely painful sting.

🔎 What are Weever Fish?
Weever fish are small, sandy-coloured fish that bury themselves in the seabed, often with only their eyes and venomous dorsal spines visible. They are commonly found in shallow coastal waters and along sandy beaches around the UK, particularly during the summer months.

📍 Where might you find them?
They are most often found:
• In shallow water close to the shore
• On sandy beaches and sandbanks
• Around low tide and in the warmer months
• Buried just beneath the sand, making them difficult to spot

✅ How can you avoid being stung?
• Wear beach shoes or sandals when entering the water.• Shuffle your feet through the sand rather than taking normal steps.• Take extra care in shallow, sandy water.• Avoid handling fish you do not recognise.

⚠️ What does a sting feel like?
People often describe a weever fish sting as an intense burning or throbbing pain that can feel far worse than a bee or wasp sting. The affected area may become red, swollen and painful very quickly.

🩹 What should you do if you're stung?
1️⃣ Get help from a lifeguard or first aider if available.
2️⃣ Carefully remove any visible spines.
3️⃣ Immerse the affected area in very warm water (as hot as can be tolerated without causing burns) for at least 30 minutes. The venom is heat-sensitive and hot water helps break it down.
4️⃣ Take appropriate pain relief if needed.
5️⃣ Seek medical advice if symptoms are severe or if you experience difficulty breathing, significant swelling or feel unwell.

❌ Do not apply ice, urinate on the sting, or use freshwater to rinse the area initially.
Fortunately, most weever fish stings are not serious and can be treated effectively with prompt first aid, but they can certainly spoil a day at the beach if you're not prepared.

Stay safe, enjoy the coast, and remember: if you're visiting a lifeguarded beach and need assistance, speak to the lifeguards on duty.

🍷 Can You Help? W**e Donations Needed Urgently!🚤

Our Skegness RNLI Open Day is taking place this Saturday, and one of our most popular fundraising stalls, “Water or W**e?”, needs your help!

The game is simple: pick a wrapped bottle and hope you’ve chosen a lovely bottle of w**e… rather than a bottle of water! 🍷💧 It’s always great fun and raises valuable funds to help support our lifesaving work.

We’re urgently looking for donations of full bottles of w**e to make sure the stall is a success.

If you’re able to donate, bottles can be:
📍 Dropped off at Skegness RNLI Lifeboat Station between 10am and 4pm, or
🚗 Collected by arrangement if you’re unable to get to us.

Every bottle donated helps us raise more money to keep our volunteer crews trained, equipped and ready to save lives at sea.

If you can help, please send us a message or pop into the station.

Thank you for your continued support – we couldn’t do it without you! ❤️💙
