Take the Controls: Experience Flying with 1073 (Skegness) Squadron! 🛩️

Week 10 of our Open Evening Countdown starts in the sky!

How many 13-year-olds can say they’ve taken the control column of an aircraft, felt the pull of aerobatics, and looked down over Lincolnshire at 3,000 feet? At 1073 (Skegness) Squadron, taking to the skies isn't a dream - it's standard practice.

Operating out of our brand-new, state-of-the-art Cadet Centre on Churchill Avenue, we are inviting new cadets, adult instructors, and supporters to join our team ahead of our Open Evening on Monday 28th September.

🚀 For Prospective Cadets (Aged 12 in Year 8 to 17)

Ever wanted to fly a real plane? Through Air Experience Flights (AEFs) with 7 AEF at RAF Cranwell, you'll gear up in full flight kit and strap into the Grob Tutor T.1 alongside active RAF pilots. You won't just be a passenger - once airborne, you take the controls, learn basic maneuvers, and even experience loops and barrel rolls!

🛠️ For Adult Volunteers (Civilian Instructors)

You don’t need to fly a plane to help a cadet soar. We need adult volunteers (20+) to help us deliver these life-changing experiences. Whether assisting on flight line trips, training cadets in flight theory, or teaching aviation skills on parade nights, you’ll gain fully funded qualifications and give back to local youth.

💰 For Community Members (Civilian Committee)

Behind every cadet in the cockpit is a great team on the ground. Our Civilian Committee ensures we have the funding and logistical backing to keep flying opportunities accessible and affordable for every young person in Skegness. No military knowledge needed - just a desire to support our local squadron!

Stop watching from the sidelines. Mark your calendar and come see what we’re all about!

🗓️ SAVE THE DATE: Open Evening - Monday 28th September

📍 Where: Joint Cadet Centre, Churchill Avenue, Skegness, PE25 2RN

📅 Parade Nights: Mondays and Thursdays, 19:15 - 21:30

WE NEED YOU!!!

Skegness Air Cadets are currently recruiting for both new Committee members and Staff members.

If you have an interest in aviation or one of the many other subjects that we teach, or think you can lend your hand with admin or health and safety etc then please keep reading.

CIVILIAN COMMITTEE
The Civilian committee meet around 6 times a year, usually on a cadet night for around an hour, and help with fund raising events where required.
We currently have 6 Committee Members, the minimum number we can have is 5, the maximum is 12.
The committee is responsible for looking after the funds of the squadron, raising more funds for the squadron and working out where is best to spend our funds in conjunction with the squadron commander. Without the Committee our squadron cannot run.

SQUADRON STAFF
There are various staff roles; Cadet Forces Commissioned Officer; Cadet Forces Senior Non-Commissioned Officer and Civilian Instructor. The first 2 being uniformed roles, the latter is not.
We look for staff from various walks of life, there is the hands-on aspect of staff, being front facing, teaching Duke of Edinburgh, Leadership, First Aid, Aviation Studies etc to our cadets but also the admin that goes on in the background, risk assessments, event planning, sharing of information, cadet and staff data inputting and updating etc. All of which is equally important.
We currently have 4 full time members of staff and our squadron Padre; there is no limit to the number of staff we can have. The more we have the easier it is to have subject matter experts.

If you think you could help either as a civilian committee member or staff member, or you aren’t sure and have questions, please get in touch.
