Cadets honed their navigation skills last night, practicing compass bearings. They followed a series of bearings from a starting cone, aiming to finish at the correct letter cone. Success meant they mastered the course! 🧭🗺️

As part of National Volunteers’ Week, we would like to celebrate and thank everyone who volunteers their time to make Sittingbourne Sea Cadets possible. Each and every volunteer plays a vital role in providing young people with opportunities and experiences they may not otherwise have.

Every parade night, activity, event, ceremony, and achievement by a cadet is only possible because of the time, dedication, and commitment of our volunteers. They generously give up their evenings and weekends to help young people build confidence, develop valuable life skills, form lasting friendships, and realise their full potential.

As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week, it is important to recognise that many of our cadets are volunteers too.

Through initiatives such as the @ The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, our cadets give their time to support their local communities. They volunteer in community cafés, charity shops, schools, and a variety of other organisations, making a positive difference while developing valuable skills and experiences of their own.

Within the unit, our senior cadets often volunteer their time to assist with training sessions, helping to pass on the knowledge and skills they have gained to younger cadets. Their leadership, enthusiasm, and willingness to support others play an important role in the development of the next generation of Sea Cadets.

Many of our cadets also volunteer at community events alongside the unit, representing Sittingbourne Sea Cadets with pride and contributing to local activities throughout the year.

We are incredibly proud of the commitment, service, and community spirit shown by our cadets. Their willingness to give back and help others demonstrates the values of volunteering and leadership that are at the heart of the Sea Cadet experience.

Here is a photo of the some of the cadets volunteering to wrap prizes for the community event we are attending on Sunday.

Today, we would also like to recognise and thank our Parent Supporters. While they may not always wear uniform, their contribution to the success of the unit is invaluable.
Our parent volunteers support the unit in many different ways. From running the Stand Easy and ensuring cadets can enjoy a drink and snack during their break, to helping with transport to and from activities and events, their assistance helps make many of our activities possible.

They also play an important role in maintaining the unit by supporting working parties and helping with essential upkeep and improvement projects. In addition, many of our parent supporters generously give their time to assist with fundraising events, helping to raise vital funds that benefit all our cadets.
Their willingness to help, often at short notice and behind the scenes, makes a real difference to the running of the unit. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support, commitment, and dedication to Sittingbourne Sea Cadets and the opportunities we provide for young people.

They generously give up their evenings and weekends to help young people build confidence, develop valuable life skills, form lasting friendships, and realise their full potential.

Today, we would like to recognise our Unit Instructor Volunteers. These are the volunteers most people see regularly, delivering training sessions, leading activities, and supporting cadets both in the classroom and out on the water.
Their role involves far more than simply attending the unit twice a week. Behind every session is careful planning and preparation to ensure cadets receive engaging, enjoyable, and valuable training. Our instructors also dedicate time to maintaining and renewing their qualifications, ensuring they remain current and able to provide the highest standards of instruction and safety.
In addition, they organise events, activities, and parades, while keeping parents informed about upcoming opportunities and experiences available to their children. Their enthusiasm, knowledge, and commitment help create the positive and supportive environment that enables our cadets to thrive.
We are incredibly grateful for the time and effort our Unit Instructor Volunteers invest in supporting and inspiring the next generation.

We would like to begin by recognising our Unit Management Team (UMT) – the trustees and committee members who work tirelessly behind the scenes and often go unnoticed.
The UMT is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the unit. They oversee finances, making sure essential bills such as electricity, internet, and insurance are paid on time. They organise fundraising activities that help keep the unit operating and enable us to purchase equipment and resources that enhance the Sea Cadet experience for our young people.
They also ensure the unit remains compliant with all necessary regulations and work hard to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for both cadets and staff. Their dedication and support are fundamental to the success of Sittingbourne Sea Cadets, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they do.

Thank you very much for awarding us funding through the Community Chest Fund.

We were delighted and honoured to be chosen alongside so many worthwhile local organisations. This support will make a real difference to our cadets and the opportunities we can offer them.

The grant will be used to purchase camping stoves, allowing our cadets to learn how to use them safely and confidently before taking part in expeditions. Developing these practical outdoor skills is an important part of their training and helps prepare them for future challenges and adventures.

Thank you for all that you do to support local groups and strengthen our community.

Our worthy recipients of the Sittingbourne Invicta Rotary Club Community Chest awards, presented by President Martin at the Woodstock Club last night.

Cadets and Juniors have enjoyed two Boating days during May half term and have made the most of the sunny days.

Cadets have practiced single rowing, anchoring and rowing in all positions. They even competed a couple of challenges including blindfold rowing where all the crew except the coxswain wore a blindfold to complete a fig 8 course.

Did you know May is National Water Safety Month?
Water safety is about so much more than just being able to swim - it’s about awareness, confidence, and knowing how to stay safe in and around the water.
Cadets have to complete water safety sessions before they can get in a boat.
Today cadets learnt about Cold water shock, how to FLOAT to live and the importance of staying as a group. They practiced helping each other out of the water.
