Mel is one of our incredible volunteers, using her creativity to bring something truly special to life at Demelza. đź’™

From designing sets for Festive Wishes to creating our beautiful Butterfly Project, Mel has dedicated hours of her time to help create meaningful experiences for the families we support.

Mel's work on the Butterfly Project has been especially impactful. She said: "The exhibition is really special to me because it’s something for those parents who have lost a child – it’s emotional. It’s about giving back, to be able to offer some of my precious time to help."

Congratulations to Demelza Celebrity Ambassador, , who has received a damehood for services to ice skating and voluntary service today. đź‘Ź

Dame Jayne and her ice skating partner Sir Christopher Dean, who has received a knighthood, were awarded the honours by King Charles at Windsor Castle.

Dame Jayne has been a supporter of Demelza for more than 20 years and opened our Eltham hospice, our soft play area at Kent and our shop in Heathfield, as well as supporting us in many other ways. đź’™

We are saddened to hear that Hospice in the Weald have launched a consultation to remove their children’s services. Our thoughts are with the staff, children and families affected during this incredibly difficult time.

The hospice sector is facing mounting financial pressures, driven by the cost of living rising operational costs, increases in National Insurance contributions, inflation and years of insufficient investment from successive governments. As a result, more and more children’s hospices are experiencing unprecedented financial strain.

To continue providing vital care for children with serious or life-limiting conditions, sustainable long-term funding is urgently needed. Hospices must be able to plan services with confidence and ensure support is available when and where families need it most.

That’s why we stand in solidarity with Hospice UK and support their call for fair funding to prevent further reductions in essential services for families already facing the most challenging of times.

We remain committed to providing care and support to children and families across Kent, South East London and East Sussex in the best way possible and to ensuring families continue to receive the support and services they need when they need them most.

💙 Last year, Demelza supported 70 families with clinical end‑of‑life care.

We are here for every child and family who need us – especially at the most difficult of times.

Our bereavement suite offers families up to five precious days to stay close to their child after they have died. It’s time to grieve, reflect and say goodbye in their own way, surrounded by care and understanding.
