Today Friends of The Byes volunteers starting pruning the apple and pear trees in the Byes Community Orchard.
Now most of the fruit has been picked and hopefully enjoyed by members of the public. If anyone wants to share any photos or thoughts on the fruit or orchard in general, please comment below.

Today 3 volunteers made a start with light pruning the fruit trees that we gave a heavy prune last year. We hope to give the other half of the orchard a heavy prune in November and if volunteer numbers allow, we may have time to prune some of the fruit trees in Sid Meadow and along the cycle path near Water Lane.

If you or anyone you know would like to help, you will be very welcome to join us on any of the following dates:
Saturday 18th October 10am-Midday
Wednesday 22nd October 11am-1pm
Saturday 15th October 10am-Midday
Wednesday 29th October 11am-1pm
Saturday 1st November 10am-Midday
Wednesday 5th November 11am-1pm
Saturday 8th November 10am-Midday
Wednesday 12th November 11am-1pm
Saturday 15th November 10am-Midday

Did you know the Community Orchard was planted on National Trust owned Land back in 2012 with funding from Groundwork
https://www.facebook.com/share/1BbZtNLBP2 The grass in the Orchard and Sid Meadow is cut once a year by East Devon County Council. All other maintenance of trees and grass paths is carried out by Friends of The Byes volunteers.
If you would like to donate to help volunteers purchase tools, please send a cheque to Friends of The Byes C/O Sidmouth Town Council, Woolcombe House, Sidmouth, EX10 9BB

Volunteers were in the Byes yesterday making the most of the dry morning.
It is great to see people using the community orchard to socialise, enjoying drinks & food with friends and family. There are bins next to all the picnic benches which volunteers empty. It’s sad therefore to see rubbish strewn all over the ground around the bin.
