Mr Stripey's Big Operation 💚
When 9-year-old Mr Stripey first arrived at The Centre, he had a small mass on his back. Due to his age and the risks associated with surgery, our veterinary team made the decision not to operate at the time. The mass wasn’t causing him any problems and, as he was otherwise in good health, they felt it was safest to leave it alone and keep a close eye on him 🐰
Sadly, over time the mass began to grow quite large. Although there was nothing sinister about it, it had recently started to bother Mr Stripey. It became sore, was bleeding, and he was getting increasingly frustrated trying to reach it 😢
Our veterinary team therefore made the decision that the best thing for Mr Stripey was to remove the mass, giving him a chance to be comfortable again. As he would already need to undergo an anaesthetic, they also decided to neuter him, which should hopefully give him a better chance of finding a suitable rabbit friend. Mr Stripey can be quite a humpy boy, and so far all attempts to bond him with a friend had been unsuccessful.
Any surgery on a rabbit of nearly 9 years old carries additional risks, but our veterinary team felt Mr Stripey was a good candidate for the procedure as, aside from his mass, he is in good health. It was a carefully considered decision, with his comfort and quality of life at the heart of it 😘
And we are so pleased to say that our little boy came through his operation like a champ! Our veterinary team are really pleased with his recovery so far, and we will be keeping a very close eye on him as he continues to recover 💕
After 8 months of waiting, we just want the very best for this lovely older boy. We’re hoping this surgery will be the start of a much more comfortable chapter for Mr Stripey and, fingers crossed, one that eventually leads him to the loving home he has been waiting for 🥰
