📢 Recreation Ground Update : The "Red Shelter"
At Wednesday's Extraordinary Meeting of the Viscountess Barrington's Trust, the Trustees voted to *remove the Red Shelter* from the playground area of the Recreation Ground.
This decision follows ongoing concerns raised by both residents and Trustees regarding health and safety, particularly repeated incidents of people climbing onto the roof, as well as reports of increasing anti-social behaviour in and around the shelter over the summer months.
The Trustees recognised that removing the shelter will not, on its own, resolve anti-social behaviour. However, it is hoped that removing a location where incidents frequently occur may help discourage this activity and encourage use of more open, visible and better-lit areas of the Recreation Ground.
The Trustees also acknowledged that the shelter has been a valued feature for many residents over the years. For that reason, they have committed to exploring alternative seating and shelter options for the Recreation Ground, with further discussion to take place at future Trust meetings.
