Some members of Baschurch WI Craft Group visited The Longest Yarn at Welshpool Town Hall today.

What an incredible exhibition! It features 80 beautifully knitted and crocheted tableaux telling the story of Britain at War during WWII, from the Kindertransport in 1939 through to VJ Day. Alongside the tableaux are life-size knitted models depicting different roles and notable people from the period.

Our hats are off to all the incredibly talented craftspeople whose time, skill and dedication have brought this remarkable exhibition to life. 🧶👏🇬🇧

Our craft group meets on the 1st Monday of the month at All Saints.

We showed up… and now we’re showed out! 🎉🏆

Our wonderfully industrious team, led by our President Alison, have been busy bees this summer. 🐝

First stop: Oswestry Show in August, where we entered a mix of collaborative and individual competitions. Then it was off to the show and WI Day at Shrewsbury Abbey last weekend — because apparently we hadn’t done enough already! 😂

And all that hard work paid off, as we were lucky enough to come away with some lovely prizes along the way. 🏆👏

A massive thank you to everyone who got stuck in — creating, crafting, baking, preserving, competing, supporting and generally making things happen.

Well done, team! ❤️

A grand day out in the beautiful town of Buxton during well dressing week. Thanks to Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust for such a warm welcome and the interactive history of the town and it's water. The Romans loved it - and so did we!

Yesterday, a group of Baschurch WI members and friends visited Cruckfield House gardens near Ford, open by arrangement to groups for the National Garden Scheme. We were made very welcome by the owner Mr Geoff Cobley who talked about the development of the garden over 48 years and the more recent impact of hot and dry weather. Although it threatened rain yesterday, it held off and we were able to enjoy the variety of this beautiful garden at leisure. Specimen trees and shrubs, beds full of peony and rose varieties in full bloom, tinkling fountains in the courtyard garden, alliums and box hedges and the lake, shady bog garden and wild flower areas. Sculptures and seating dotted through added to it's charm. A very pleasant afternoon and well worth a visit.

A group of us joined the Shropshire Federation Spring ramble held at Much Wenlock yesterday. It was a perfect sun filled spring morning as we climbed through shady woods with the smell of wild garlic in the air, bluebells and violets at our feet. At the top we were rewarded with the wide reaching views from the Edge. The refreshments at the end were superb. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard in organising an excellent event.
