Bethphage was first established in the US in 1913 by a Swedish pastor called K.G. His vision was to create homes for people with disabilities who were at the time kept in prison-like conditions. In 1994, Donna Werner, a senior manager of Bethphage in the US came to Shropshire and spoke with commissioners about the potential for providing care and support in UK. Ms Werner established the UK organis
ation, which was initially managed from the US but soon became a free standing UK organisation supported by its American parent. Our first services were three small residential care homes in Whitchurch, Shrewsbury and Telford. Since then, we have grown to work across five local authority areas and now employ around 240 staff. As a registered charity, Bethphage has a volunteer board of six trustees, who each bring their own expertise to benefit the people we help.
