☀️ Hot weather advice for Shropshire ☀️

Hot weather can be dangerous, especially for older people, young children, and those with health conditions.

💧 Drink plenty of fluids
🌳 Stay in the shade between 11am–3pm
🧴 Wear light clothing, a hat & sunscreen
🏠 Keep your home cool
🤝 Check on vulnerable friends, family & neighbours

Feeling unwell in the heat could be a sign of heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

📣Write to Your MP: Help Keep People's Voices at the Heart of Health and Social Care

The Government’s proposed Health Bill could change how patient feedback is gathered - including replacing independent Healthwatch services.

We believe it’s vital that people continue to have access to an independent organisation to share their experiences openly.

📝 You can help by writing to your MP and asking them to protect independent patient voices.

📢 New Report Published: Access to Medication in Shropshire

Healthwatch Shropshire has released a new report exploring people’s experiences of accessing medication across the county, highlighting both positive progress and ongoing challenges.

Key findings:
• 45% said the NHS App makes ordering prescriptions quick and easy
• 20% praised the speed and helpfulness of pharmacy staff
• 20% experienced unacceptable waiting times
• 10% found the system confusing or inefficient
• Some people reported multiple trips to pharmacies due to stock issues or delays

The report shows a mixed picture and identifies clear opportunities to improve local pharmacy and prescribing systems.

During our recent volunteer meeting, we were delighted to celebrate two of our valued volunteers, Anne and Vanessa, who have been awarded their long-service badges in recognition of over 10 years of incredible commitment 🎉🏅

They have both played important roles as Board members, with Vanessa serving as Chair, and as dedicated Enter and View Volunteers 👏

Their dedication, time, and continued support have made a real difference to our work and to the people we support ❤️ We are truly grateful for everything they have contributed and continue to bring to the team.

🌿 We had a fantastic visit to Crowsmill Craft Centre CIC recently, where the Green Network and Mental Health Forum came together for a joint meeting in an inspiring and welcoming space.

🪵 Crowsmill is a truly unique community hub supporting people experiencing mental health challenges, learning/physical difficulties, and social isolation. Through hands-on craft, woodland work, and practical skills-based activities, they help people build confidence, connection, and a sense of purpose in a safe and supportive environment.

🎨 Bringing both networks together at Crowsmill created a powerful opportunity to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore how nature, creativity, and community support can work hand in hand to improve wellbeing.

💚 A huge thank you to the Crowsmill team for hosting and for the incredible work you continue to do, and to Shropshire Wildlife Trust for organising.

“The plan to abolish Healthwatch will ultimately strip patients of their voice.”

This statement from Helen Morgan MP highlights exactly why an independent voice in health and social care is so important. It ensures people can speak up freely, share their experiences, and know they will be listened to and acted upon.

Our Chief Officer, Lynn, recently spoke on BBC Radio Shropshire about the vital role of local voices in shaping services. Independent insight from communities is essential to driving improvement and making sure care reflects people’s real experiences.

At Healthwatch Shropshire, we remain committed to listening, representing what we hear, and working to improve services for everyone.

We were delighted to have our Engagement Officer, Emily, visit the Stroke Group in Church Stretton recently.

🤝Emily spent time getting to know members of the group and listening to their experiences of stroke services and support across Shropshire. It was a valuable opportunity to connect, hear first-hand insights, and strengthen relationships within the local community.

The Stroke Group provides such a warm, welcoming, and supportive space, and it was inspiring to see the positive impact it has on everyone involved. Thank you to all the members for making Emily feel so welcome and we look forward to staying in touch.
