Struggling with Heating Oil Costs? Support Is Available on the Isle of Wight.

For many households on the Isle of Wight, heating your home means relying on oil rather than mains gas.

With energy prices rising, this can put significant pressure on household budgets—especially because heating oil must often be bought in large amounts upfront. If you’re finding it difficult to afford your next delivery, there is help available through the Isle of Wight Council’s Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF).

Are you blocking your trickle vents and extractors to try and keep the heat in?

It’s one of the most common energy-saving myths we hear. But before you tape up those vents or turn off the extractor to save a bit of warmth, watch our latest video.

A battery is already making a difference to one Niton home.

As part of Green Isle of Wight’s VIBE battery trials, a 5 kWh battery has been installed alongside existing solar panels and a heat pump.

For Monty, the difference is already showing on his smart meter:

“I’ve already noticed that, in the evenings, when my smart meter used to be in the orange zone, it is now showing that I’m not using any energy from the grid.”

The second VIBE trial installation is providing valuable insight into how home batteries can reduce grid use while supporting a cleaner, more flexible energy system.

You don’t need a suitable roof to start generating solar power.

We've launched a new balcony solar service, helping Island residents and renters explore whether plug-in solar could work for their home.

We’ll assess your outdoor space, estimate potential generation and help source compliant equipment. There’s a wider benefit too. Income from the service helps fund our work supporting people across the Island who are struggling with energy costs.

A practical way to generate clean energy, reduce electricity use and support the local community. Find out more and request a free assessment: www.greeniow.org.uk/balcony-solar/
