Whenever we do a tour it is always a privilege to show people our War Memorial Trench and explain the reason why it is where it is.

This time of year it is so beautiful and such an amazing oasis for wildlife.

So many different types of bees and hoverflies, butterflies and both types of lizard that call the fort home.

We’ll never forget the first day of laying the sandbags for the trench and the lizards came and found us… we knew we were increasing the habitat for the wildlife, with the way we were building it, and that little lizard came and told us we were right 🥰

What got me yesterday though were the flowers… simply stunning and the poppies are a true representation of the meaning of the War Memorial.

We Will Remember Them

Wow! What a day (Thursday)…

On site at 09:45 to set up ready for Worthing Society’s tour with us. A meeting at 13:00 with a lovely young lady who is currently an intern at Shoreham Port and then a Tin Hut Talk. We finally left site at 21:30 after packing up - which was made easier by our fabulous Antony, who has been with Gary and I all day.

Trevor Povey enlightened us all this evening with his knowledge and combined research for his talk ‘Assembling Force “S” - Ready for Sword Beach’. This talk really has dispelled some myths with first hand accounts, war diaries and records which genuinely prove how significant Shoreham was in the lead up to and during D-Day…

Huge thanks to Trevor for this evening and another utterly brilliant talk. Also a massive thanks to Gary Baines and John Chapman, who started the hunt for categoric proof of Shoreham’s role in D-Day for our Marlipins Exhibition, which was on display leading up to D-Day 80. Thanks to John and Frank from Men in Sheds Lancing and Sompting for our amazing Landing Craft scale model now on display in the Nissen Hut and enormous thanks must also go to Chris Barrington Brown for his incredible work on http://www.ddaybuildup.info/ which has aided us in our quest to put Shoreham back on the D-Day map…

Our next talk is a return guest speaker from last year. This year Tony Bray is joining us to discuss a ‘Catastrophic Defeat’…

Tickets need to be booked through Eventbrite, so book now to avoid disappointment…

Our next Tin Hut Talk is next Thursday (18th) and we have the fabulous Trevor Povey with us.

Trevor has been a long time supporter of the project and has given us many a fascinating presentation. He and Mrs P have also been true friends to Gary, myself and our families for many years :)

For this talk we can’t get much more local so, as the poster says, join us and help get Shoreham on map for this hugely significant event in our history.

The Eventbrite link is here, or alternatively the QR code will take you straight to the relevant page…

A HUGE thank you to all the incredible volunteers who helped make our display absolutely superb today at Buckingham Park.

Thank you to all of you who came to see us too. Bit of a weird layout this year but you found us, which was the main thing 🙂

From Victorian, through World War One and on to World War Two, the Friends of Shoreham Fort spanned the eras with the Royal Sussex Living History Group and Steps Back In Time bringing the display to life and sharing their expert knowledge.

Another element which made the display so special for us, was having Pat and Viv with their Jeep too 🥰

A great but very long day - we’re back to work tomorrow for a rest…

A few of us braved today’s weather on site to pack everything in the cars, van, trailer and horse box, ready for Adur East Lion Club’s Fun Day at Buckingham Park tomorrow - Sunday 7th June.

Adur East Lions are all volunteers and the Friends of Shoreham Fort are all volunteers - as are many of the stalls that will be creating this wonderful, free community event.

Now it’s down to you guys…

Let’s fill Buckingham Park with smiling, happy faces as we all come together for what is set to be a brilliant day.

See you there :)

It’s not often that we cancel an event but with the weather looking as bad as it is for Saturday, this is our best option - we can’t expect our sellers to get their Militaria ruined by rain.

You will still see some of us on site though, as we are packing up the vehicles for Sunday.

We are displaying with the Adur East Lions’ for their Shoreham Fun Day at Buckingham Park - 11:00~16:00.

Do a sun dance and come and find us 🙂

Wow! What a very busy week we’ve had, especially Gary…

A presentation in Goring in Tuesday, a tour at the fort in Wednesday evening and a sold out Tin Hut Talk and tour of the fort Thursday evening. To top it all off we had a volunteer day yesterday and got to meet even more wonderful people who had come to the coast for a day out and found us. They were so engaged in the project and behind everything we do that their words of encouragement made all the hard work worth while.

Our next Tin Hut Talk is the one and only Trevor Povey, whose talk sheds some light on Shoreham’s HUGE but very overlooked involvement in D-Day. A lot of combined research has gone into this talk to please do come along and help get Shoreham on the map.

As always, please do book your tickets in advance. We can’t really accept drop ins as we are limited in numbers. If you are spreading the word of our talks then please do also spread the words that it is a ticketed event.

See you there for a cuppa and what looks set to be a very interesting talk.
