We'd like your thoughts on revised plans to improve the centre of Lancing’s shopping area, after we received feedback from hundreds of local people.

For the last two years, we've been working with officers at West Sussex County Council on proposals to invest hundreds of thousands of pounds in North Road to help regenerate the area.

Designs have been drawn up for the closure of the North Farm Road junction and its replacement with a pocket park featuring trees and planting to make the area greener and more attractive for the community.

Residents and businesses have told us they'd like improved lighting at the junction as well as additional seating, so this has been taken on board.

We're running drop-in sessions during June where you can have your say on the updated plans. They will take place at Lancing Parish Council and in South Street on 12th June, in Queens Parade and at Lancing Station on 16th June, and at Lancing Beach Green on 23rd June.

You can also comment online by visiting www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/lancing-village-centre/ -steps. The latest consultation runs until Sunday 19th July.

🔦 Volunteers' Week Spotlight: Stuart Wadey - Repair Café Lancing

❓ What inspired you to start volunteering with Repair Café Lancing?
"I volunteered for Repair Cafe Lancing for many reasons; I wanted to contribute to the community, I totally agree with the idea of repairing rather than throwing things away, I like meeting people and I like to help in any small way that I can."

❓ Why is supporting this cause important to you?
"This is a local cause to me, it supports my town and my community in so many ways and I wanted to help and support it. It helps too that the people are so friendly and make the initial introduction into groups so easy."

❓ What's your favourite thing about volunteering?
"I like helping people, I like meeting people and it is so rewarding when you can help them in small ways but in huge ways for them."

❓ What would you say to someone who's thinking about volunteering?
"I would say don't think about it, do it! Volunteering is so rewarding, people appreciate all your help and the groups are well organised and there is a real sense of being part of something."

🔦 Volunteers' Week Spotlight: Siobhan Reynolds - Governor, North Lancing Primary School

❓What volunteer role do you do?
"I volunteer as a Governor for North Lancing Primary School."

❓What inspired you to get involved?
"I wanted to volunteer somewhere I thought I could make a positive difference, & that was based in my local community. Having worked in education for years, I thought I had relevant experience to offer."

❓What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
"I love being active in my local community, & being able to make a positive difference to people/children’s lives."

❓What advice would you give to someone thinking about volunteering?
"Go for it! Find something you have an interest in & then just give whatever time you have, even if it’s just a few hours. And if it doesn’t work out, you can always try something else.

I have met some amazing people, & gain so much from feeling part of my local community, volunteering is a positive, feel good thing to do, wherever you do it!"

📰 On Monday 1st June, we hosted a volunteers thank you event at our office to thank volunteers from AVA and also local community groups for all their hard work. Volunteers came from community gardens, befriending projects, community farms, recycling projects, digital skills sessions and the Repair Cafe.

AVA CEO Karen said "One of my favourite things about this job is working with volunteers who are all doing amazing things for their local communities. It is wonderful to see all the good volunteers do locally and we are so grateful for everything they do. Happy Volunteers Week!"

Day 1 of 7: Volunteers’ Week💜

“If you want to walk away from your volunteering feeling like you’ve made a truly tangible difference, do it! Don’t think that it’s complicated. Don’t think that you need to be an expert in anything. You don’t. You just need to be kind and able to listen.”

These powerful words come from a Home Start volunteer and perfectly capture what volunteering with us is all about.

Many people think they need specialist skills or professional experience to support a family, but the reality is that some of the most valuable things you can offer are kindness, compassion and a listening ear.
Our volunteers support local families facing a range of challenges, helping parents build confidence, reduce isolation and feel more able to cope. The impact can be life changing, not just for the families we support, but for the volunteers themselves.

Could you spare just 1–2 hours a week to make a real difference to a local family?

If you’d like to find out more about volunteering with Home Start Arun, Worthing & Adur, we’d love to hear from you.
