As we mentioned in this evenings’ Explorer Meeting there are some mandatory activities that everyone should complete as being part of the unit:
• Follow one of the DofE Awards or Equivalent Scouting Award (see http://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/search/?cat=9,88,125 )
• Complete one or more of the Activity Badges (see http://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/search/?cat=9,88,92 )
• Complete the Dragon Award (see http://www.scoutswales.org.uk/members/awards/dragon-award )
We know which DofE Awards you are doing but by the time we meet on the 18th December can you make sure that you have looked at the choices on the scouting web-site and let us know which of the Activity Badge programme(s) you want to follow.
You’ll see from a lot of them that they can go hand in hand with DofE and could form either the Skill or Physical components and in gaining a badge it would show the measured improvement that they are looking for. A number of you are already some way into achieving the badges and just to highlight a couple:
• Air Activities
• Caving
• Climbing
• Creative Arts
• Hill Walking
• Mountain Biking
Woody also mentioned a great opportunity with the Rona Sailing Project (www.ronasailingproject.co.uk ) and Gloucestershire Scouts will be starting up next year’s Scuba Programme in March which takes you through PADI qualifications and beyond.
Any questions give me a shout
