Update. Valeria has decided she’s ready to feed herself!

Matron has just been to collect these four from BD8. Mum was disturbed by garden clearance, their nest sadly totally destroyed and she has abandoned these four approx 3-4 day old hoglets.
They weigh between 37-44g, have been toiletted, given fluids and have taken 0.5ml formula.
Just as Valeria has opened her eyes and weaning is beginning! No rest for the wicked eh?!!!

Took the opportunity today to clean out Thelma’s sh*tty bedroom and weigh her and her babies, she’s lost one (Petal) who was the little runty one but the others are doing really well. Sadly Thelma couldn’t force feed her and as she was in the hutch she wasn’t checked daily to keep disturbance down to a minimum.
She’s still a great mum 🥰🦔🦔🦔❤️

Get that water out peeps! It’s a lifesaver!

Please remember to leave clean and fresh water 💧 on the ground in shallow bowls for wildlife. You may enjoy the heat but it can kill hedgehogs really fast if they dont have access to water on the ground.

Valeria - up 7g from yesterday. Now 65g. Taking her formula like a good ‘un!

Valeria has just taken 4.5ml formula and has gained 7g since yesterday taking her up to 65g. Another feed due in 3hrs time. Eyes almost about to open - but not quite yet…

When Nestor came in a couple of weeks ago from Allerton we weren’t sure he would last the night he was so, so poorly. His parasite burden was immense and he was passing green, bloody, mucous p**p. We placed him in an incubator and have been administering sub cut fluids and he’s had a course of antibiotic for upset tummies. He barely ate anything except a few moistened baby cat biscuits. Now he’s stabilised we’ve started him on a very gentle child’s wormer and he’s had a couple of days of medicine to help with tummy pain. His appetite has improved and we’ve moved him out of the incubator today.
For one who we were sure wasn’t going to make it, he’s doing surprisingly well. Keep it up Nestor!

Valeria has just taken 3ml of formula and is totally in a food coma! She’s doing amazingly well. Her eyes should open within the next couple of days.

Thelma has been moved to an outside hutch to give her more room to bring up her babies. A quick check this morning while we were p**p picking and replenishing her water and Royal Canin Mother & Babycat biscuits. We couldn’t resist taking a quick snap of them all. Thelma is such a good mummy and is unphased by intrusion.
However, Thelma is used to being in rescue and we would not intervene unless absolutely necessary. Now, we will leave her alone to get on with raising her babies.
