We know many families struggle with general clothing as well as school uniform.
Salvation Army Donation Centre Shipley is having a Kilo Sale this Thursday (27th August) from 4pm-7pm - a great chance to get some clothing bargains!

We are open 3 full days on the last full week of the holidays!

Please note this is usually our busiest week of the year - if you are in need of a specific item please message in advance if possible to check we have it in stock before travelling. Please be kind to our staff & volunteers - we can only give out what we have in - we are usually just as upset as you when we are unable to help!

If you have been informed you have uniform ready to collect, please collect this by Tuesday 1st September at the latest - I am opening in the evening to give people a last chance to collect. ALL items will go back into available stock after this date.

September opening times are slightly reduced for organisational reasons. I will also only be working Tuesdays & Fridays (and 1 Saturday) in September due to taking back extra hours worked in summer, so please be patient if you message us during this month - I will be making a concerted effort to only reply during my working hours 🫣🤫

We have a large amount of lost property donation which need washing - if you are able to pick up either today before 4pm or tomorrow (Saturday 15th) between 9.30-4pm please get in touch (or just turn up - there is plenty to go round!).

It has been a really busy summer for our Uniform Support Provision so far this year!

We really appreciate all of our volunteers, especially our donation point volunteer Julie who has been amazing at collecting all of your generous donations and delivering them to our shop unit!

Please note in the poster below the cancellation of Wednesday 19th August evening opening - this is due to an important funeral which I am sure will be understood.

We are open for 5 more dates before schools return including 2 Saturday dates. We expect these 5 dates to be extremely busy. Due to the level of demand and our current small premises with many items in different storage units elsewhere, we recommend that where possible, families & professionals message us beforehand to check the items you need are available. We can then pack these up ready for collection and prevent queues forming outside the shop. If you are unable to collect on these dates, please get in touch and we can arrange for items to be picked up from the fabulous Salvation Army Donation Centre Shipley who have very kindly offered to help out in this way :)

Thank you for all your patience & support so far this summer - we know that the increase in demand & donations year on year is causing some issues in the delivery of our provision this year especially, however we already have plans in place that will hopefully relieve some of these issues by next year 😊

We are with Living Well again today at Wibsey Park for the free HAF event for families! Dawn is also joined by Jo today, one of the Corps Officers at Salvation Army Wibsey - Bradford Citadel

The Salvation Army in Wibsey have been donated some fantastic homework packs to give out to families with older children which we have with us today also 🥰

Some of the children in our United Kingdom & Ireland Territory are getting ready to return to school following the summer break.

For those moving up to secondary school, teachers and parents may have explained that whilst they’re currently the ‘big fish in a small pond’, they’re about to become ‘small fish in a big pond.’

This is the inspiration behind The Small Fish Podcast - a unique digital discipleship resource filled with ideas to help children make the transition from primary to secondary school as smooth and worry-free as possible.

Families from Keighley & nearby areas!

A fantastic pop-up throughout August, this is being run by volunteers from Action Point with the support of Keighley Markets! With the help of Charlotte from My Living Well Bradford we sent all of the logo we have been given from Keighley and nearby areas over the past year to Action Point last week so that it can be easily accessed by local families from these areas. We love when new uniform supports pop up around Bradford 🥰

We have had a number of families contacting us regarding the recent article in The Sun newspaper about the nationwide '5 items' school uniform initiative being run across various Salvation Army branches & charity shops. This is a fantastic idea to support more families across the UK and we love this new initiative very much 💞

However, it has meant many people are questioning if they are only allowed 5 items from us, and if we will only be running for the summer. I have had many messages about this article this week. Please know that we are committed to remaining a long-term all year round project. Due to this, we have plenty of stock available and do not have a limit of 5 items. We can, of course, only give out what we have in and do ask that families only take what they need. However when stock levels allow we work on a basis of supplying whatever the need is - this means we can provide anything from 1 or 2 items right up to 2-3 full sets of uniform and 1 full pe kit per child, as well as footwear and other additional items as needed.

We do work on a 'Pay as you can afford' basis - this is because we are a long-term year round service focussed on supporting families and provide sign-posting and support as well as school uniforms, and any donations help us continue to ensure this project continues. We have also been told by many families that they prefer to be able to pay a donation when they can. However, there is no minimum donation therefore items can be free as needed.

Dawn has had a great time with the My Living Well team this summer so far! We are working together with the Living Well Schools team as they look into how they can increase & support school uniform provisions across the wider Bradford district. There are still 5 events remaining - we will be at 2 more of these - Cliffe Castle & Wibsey Park :)
