It was a productive session on Sunday, clearing some of the undergrowth. Great effort by the volunteers!
We then enjoyed some lovely fresh apple juice from the Apple Day with , then headed to for some lunch!

What a stunning floral spectacle in Bradford city centre. Shipley in Bloom volunteers headed down to see the Floral Carpet over the weekend.

Fantastic news! Shipley has won the Silver Gilt in the Town Category in this year's Yorkshire in Bloom awards. 🙌🥰

Many congratulations to everyone involved, especially the volunteers, Helen the Deputy Town Clerk, councillors, supporting businesses, community organisations, Bradford Council and the wider community.

The judges commented:

"Despite the recent scorching temperatures around the period of our visit, the volunteers have clearly done a stellar job maintaining and watering, and we were met with a riot of colour. Standouts were the superb memorial garden tended to by Syd and commendably supported by ASDA, the Baptist Church where Colin and Nicky have created a gem, and Hirst Wood Nature Reserve was a revelation!"

It was another productive volunteer session at the weekend, with volunteers sowing some hardy annuals and biennials in trays at the Red Beck community allotment.
We also gave the police station planters a bit of a tidy up.

We can't wait to see the Flower Carpet Project that is coming to Bradford Centenary Square, Thursday 24 September to Sunday 27 September.

There's also free, flower-inspired drop-in family activities with United Art Project over the weekend between 10am – 5pm.

If you're free this Sunday morning, we'd love you to join us at Red Beck allotments, 10am-12pm

Shipley in Bloom volunteers will be tidying up the areas, planting and reviewing priorities for next growing season.

Dependent on weather, please come with suitable footwear and clothing.

All equipment is provided, and all welcome.

What a wonderful day SiB volunteers had visiting RHS Garden Harlow Carr!

The group enjoyed wandering around and appreciating the beautiful flowers, trees and plants (and the wildlife they support) which were putting on their best show as we move from summer into autumn. They spotted some of the marvellous Lego models on the trail, but probably not all of them!

After they enjoyed food made from seasonal produce grown on site, and discussed ideas to take back to Shipley and our community allotment.

Thank you to our volunteers who joined us on a wet weekend.

There was a check on the allotment before heading to see the planters by the Police Station. The honesty has dropped most of its seed and the beans haven't been picked so we could harvest and plant new beans.
Afterwards, we headed to the Bothy for a well deserved coffee.

If you'd like to join us at our next session, we'll be meeting on 20th September, 10am at Red Beck allotment.
