Sherwood Community Food Gardens

Sherwood Community Food Gardens Community Gardens in Sherwood, Nottingham for growing food locally and sustainably
Location: https://bit.ly/3qmtPgc The group started in 2008.

We run two community gardens to help local people grow their own food in a sustainable way. One garden is behind Sherwood Community Centre, the other is at Edingley Square, between Edwards Lane and Perry Rd. location here:

Both gardens are a mixture of small individual plots and shared spaces so there is a chance to have your own space and share in maintaining the rest of

the garden with herb beds, fruit trees, willow, wormery, compost and soft fruit. Our gardens are organic, follow permaculture principles as far as we can and they are important homes for nature and wildlife which we actively protect and encourage. We welcome volunteers and supporters to our regular working parties ( when we feel it is safe to do so under Covid restrictions). We also have vacant plots to offer every so often so please get in touch if you want to join a waiting list. No previous experience required, our gardens are friendly and supportive and a great place to learn about growing. We were previously known as Transition Sherwood a group of local people coming together to help our communities become less dependent on fossil fuels, become more resilient, and reduce our impact on the environment. Since then our focus has been on community gardens and growing food locally so we changed our name to reflect this better. We are not a staffed service so there is no one on site at regular times apart from work parties and when gardeners are tending their plots. Please contact us to arrange a visit

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the Sherwood Community Food Gardens, which includes Sherwood Community Centre Garden and Edingley Square Garden will take place on Wednesday 11th June from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Sherwood Community Centre,Woodthorpe House, Mansfield Rd, Sherwood, Nottingham, NG5 3FN. It will be in the small hall.

A couple of our committee members will be stepping down at the AGM, so we are seeking volunteers to join the committee and provide representation for both gardens in regular activities and decision making, plus support with the future development of the gardens.

If you would like to volunteer or find out more about the roles, email us at [email protected].

Everyone is welcome to join in the regular tending of shared spaces which could be anything from light weeding to heavy pruning. No previous experience necessary it’s an opportunity to learn about growing as well as helping to maintain the garden.

We're gearing up for another year of growing and our community work party dates can be found here for Sherwood Community Centre and Edingley Square Gardens: https://sherwood-community-food-gardens.mailchimpsites.com/events-and-work-parties.

On these Sunday morning sessions, plotholders and volunteers are all welcome to help keep the communal areas of the garden tidy and help create a great growing environment. There's usually a cuppa and some snacks knocking about too.

We've also got some plots become available at Edingley Square for 2025. If you or someone you know would like to find out more, email us at [email protected] to find out more.

See you in the garden soon 👩‍🌾
