Sheringham Hedgehog Hotel

Sheringham Hedgehog Hotel Self-funded rescue. Donate to account number 79269463 Code 30-98-97 Name: Sheringham Hedgehog Hotel.

It all began when three baby hedgehogs were born under our garden shed in 2020 and abandoned by their mother at just a few weeks old. We took them to Hedgehog Haven North Norfolk, where Marian nurtured them until they were old enough to be released back into our garden. In 2021, one of the released hogs had four youngsters which mother hedgehog reared until they were old enough to leave the nest.

We now have a number of hedgehogs in the local area who come and feed at our house and those of our neighbours. In order to allow Marian to spend more time caring for sick, injured and abandoned hedgehogs, I offered to provide a hedgehog taxi service to bring them from finders to the rescue. This soon turned into a first aid, triage and paramedic service for hedgehogs. Becoming aware of a gap in rescue centre provision in the Sheringham area, I have established a small 'boutique hotel', where they can be nurtured back to be released into the wild. I am really grateful to Hodmedods and the other hedgehog rescue centres in Norfolk and around the country for their generous support and advice. Also to Cromer Vets Ltd who are now getting to know me on a regular basis.

Hedgehog now collected, thank you for your kind offers to help.

Is anyone available to collect a young hedgehog from Aylsham and bring it to Sheringham or Roughton please. Many thanks, Brian.

Update; Morgan sadly passed away during the night. He looked to have suffered some trauma as he had a broken right cheek bone and jaw so was unable to eat. RIP Morgan. 🌈🦔

organ is the latest of several new arrivals. Tessa found him at lunchtime walking in the road outside her house in Corpusty.

Knowing that out in the day is not ok, she collected him up and got him to me. Although he's 515g, his dipped neck shows he's underweight and his tented spikes that he's dehydrated.

He's keeping snug in the incubator while medication starts to work.

🤞🙏 That he pulls through ok. You can do it Morgan ❤️🦔.

Winter enjoying the fresh air yesterday just before his release back to the wild.

He arrived towards the end of November weighing just 204g and with some internal parasites.

With treatment, he steadily gained weight, putting on over 100g in his first week.

Taking advantage of some more normal weather on Wednesday he returned to a garden near Aldborough weighing a healthy 860g.

Good wishes to Winter for the future. 🦔

Last Tuesday, the first of our post-holiday hedgehog arrivals made an appearance.

Robin from Wroxham arrived via Roughton at the usual handover spot. He was seen out in the garden during the day, not looking very active.

He's being treated for the usual internal parasites and has taken a liking to Purina One kitten biscuits, which are helping him put some weight on.

As soon as he's ready, he'll be moved to a hutch ready for rehoming back in Wroxham.

This sweet face belongs to Hawthorn, who was found out in the garden during the day at Briston.

He was around 400g, but very skinny and hypothermic.

As soon as he arrived he was given gentle warmth and monitored every 30 minutes. After a few hours his temperature was up to normal and he was given fluids to help his body recover along with pain relief and antibiotics.

Sadly, the cold must have already caused his internal organs to begin shutting down and he passed away later in the afternoon. However, his final hours were spent quietly and comfortably with warmth and care.

RIP Hawthorn 🦔 🌈

Prickles looking active and raring to go during her release on Thursday.

She was seen by the side of the road in Blakeney last December and admitted for care and rehabilitation.

Prickles was treated for the usual internal parasites and has trebled in weight from her 270g on arrival.

She's been released in a hedgehog friendly garden, frequently visited by other local hedgehogs in Blakeney.

Good luck Miss Prickles. 🥰🦔
