Are you looking for a meaningful way to use your financial skills to support an important waste saving initiative and support your local community?
Shepton Waste Action Group is seeking a dedicated Treasurer to oversee our financial health and help us grow our impactful food and household waste reduction initiatives and Community Fridge.
As a registered charity, we rescue surplus food, household items (including electricals, kitchen items, clothing, toys, books & sanitary products), reduce greenhouse gas emissions, offer free community meals, educational events and ensure fresh, nutritious food is accessible to everyone in our community. If you are passionate about sustainability and financial stewardship, we want to hear from you!
🌟 Key Responsibilities
• Financial Oversight: Manage the charity’s accounts, prepare annual budgets, and present clear financial reports at quarterly Board meetings.
• Strategic Planning: Collaborate with fellow Trustees to guide the charity's long-term financial sustainability and funding strategies.
• Compliance & Governance: Ensure compliance with charity commission regulations (including annual reports), HMRC, and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Banking & Payments: Oversee day-to-day financial transactions, grant tracking, and expense approvals. Produce yearly accounts.
📋 What We Are Looking For
• A background in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping (professional qualification is a plus, but not essential).
• Strategic thinking with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial trustees.
• A strong commitment to the values of environmental sustainability, waste reduction, and community support.
• Availability to commit approximately approximately 2 hours per week, including attending quarterly evening board meetings.
