What a fantastic few days at the Royal Bath & West Show!

Members of Shepton Mallet Rotary Club were proud to once again help provide the Children's Safety Bracelet service, helping families enjoy the show with added peace of mind.

It was wonderful to see so many visitors enjoying everything the show has to offer and to be part of such an important community event right here on our doorstep.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, organisers, exhibitors and visitors who helped make this year's show such a success.

As Rotarians, we're proud to support initiatives that make a real difference to local families, and the Children's Safety Bracelet scheme is a great example of Service Above Self in action.

✨ Great night last night at the Crossways Hotel for the Shepton Mallet Rotary Club Foundation Dinner ✨

It was a truly lovely evening, with MP Tessa Munt delivering a thoughtful, engaging and community-focused after-dinner speech — a real highlight of the night.

A further special moment was Bob Thornton being awarded the Paul Harris Award in recognition of his amazing dedication and diligent service to Rotary Youth Speak 👏

Although we didn’t capture a photo on the night, we didn’t want this moment to go unrecognised — Bob was genuinely surprised and incredibly humble receiving his award.

A big thank you to fellow Rotarians for organising such a wonderful evening.

Congratulations Bob — very well deserved! 🎉

Today at the Shepton Mallet Rotary Tuesday lunchtime meeting, we had an insightful and inspiring talk from Matthew Pike, Headteacher of Whitstone School. Shepton Mallet.

Matthew spoke with real passion and enthusiasm about the importance of working closely with the local community to enhance opportunities for students and broaden their experiences beyond the classroom.

It’s encouraging to see such a strong commitment to collaboration and community engagement.

We are already seeing the positive impact of this approach, with events such as the Snowdrop Festival Fashion Show bringing people together, and we look forward to many more opportunities for community partnership in the future.

🌟Outstanding Service🌟

The members of Shepton Mallet Rotary Club are proud to announce that Roger Yeoman has been presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution and dedicated service to Rotary over many years.💫

This prestigious award is the highest award bestowed by Rotary International, reflecting Roger’s unwavering commitment to the principle of Service Above Self.

In the absence of our President, Keith Jenkin, the award was presented by Keith J. Hazeldine. Keith was delighted and honoured to present this award to such a very worthy recipient.

The presentation speech was eloquently delivered by Mr Andrew Look, followed by a gracious and heartfelt acceptance speech from Roger that perfectly reflected his humility and dedication.

Roger’s service, integrity, and steadfast support of Rotary’s work have made a lasting impact on our club and the wider community.

We extend our warmest congratulations and sincere thanks for his years of outstanding commitment.

Well done, Roger! A truly well-deserved recognition.

ROTARY SPONSORSHIP OF SHEPTON SNOWDROP FESTIVAL
20th-21st February 2026

2026 will be the 10th year that Shepton Mallet hosts its annual Snowdrop Festival. Rotarians have been closely involved in planting a further 40,000 snowdrop bulbs around the town in the Autumn of 2025.

The Rotary Club of Shepton Mallet is also partnering with the Snowdrop Festival and sponsoring the Poetry and Photographic Trail. The result will see a portrayal of previous years’ photographic and poetry competition entries in several Shepton shops and businesses up and down the High Street and Town Street to promote the festival.

This year’s festival (main dates 20/21 Feb) will include many walks & talks, as well as the fashion show on Sat 7 Feb - and the main festival weekend (20/21 Feb) with events, artisanal craft and plant sales in Shepton venues, such as: Kilver Court; St Peter and St Paul’s Church, the Baptist Chapel and St Peter and St Paul’s School. This year will also see the new Somerset Snowdrop Gardens Trail run throughout February.

🎄✂️ Beards Off for a Good Cause! ✂️🎄

At our last Tuesday lunchtime meeting at Mendip Golf Club, Frank, volunteered to have his beard shaven off 😀and after a whip-round we proudly raised £43 for the Rotary Foundation. A big thank you to everyone who donated and supported the fun.

The meeting was made extra special with a lovely Christmas meal kindly supplied by Steve and the team at Mendip Golf Club. We’re incredibly grateful for their continued hospitality, providing us with a fantastic venue and consistently great lunches for our Tuesday meetings.

If you haven’t visited yet, we highly recommend the clubhouse and catering at Mendip Golf Club
