Formed in May 1970 the Southern Electric group are a non-profit making organisation for enthusiasts, historians, modelers and preservationists of the largest electric railway system in the world. It is considered to be an authoritative source of information on the whole of the Southern Electric network. The group magazine Live Rail is published Bi Monthly & at 40 odd pages contains topical items on railway operation as well as modelling news The group also has in preservation the only complete, privately owned, express electric multiple unit train in the UK 4Cor unit, number 3142 2 coaches of which are based at the East Kent Railway.
