Another side of what we do. This is Charlie who some of you have met. He’s now available for rehome but with strict criteria. Inbox for more info.

Please sign the petition everyone. We need to ensure swift nests are protected during breeding season. These birds are too precious and at risk for things like demolishing a building to overlook these checks!

Swifts are a red list Bird of Conservation Concern - so why was a nest in Dorking destroyed? We need answers from Homes England - can you help by signing the petition?

Next job on the agenda is to get the pigeon aviary sorted and release those that are ok to now go.

Thankyou to those that have offered to take some for permanent homes. Once I know which are unreleasable I will take photos and get in touch.

There are some beauties in there.
I will try and film the releases. 🥰❤️🤞🏼

Please don’t ask me if I can take any pigeons, I’m not able to take these anymore and I need to just fully focus on the endangered specialist species. I must get at least two requests per day regarding pigeons. I’m sorry I can’t help them all. I’d love to in an ideal world but there isn’t enough hours in the day.

The issue is these message requests take my time out to reply and then other messages from the sos team or swift finders etc get missed.

I do still take the odd garden bird and I’ve got a young blackbird at minute on soft release in the garden bird aviary. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ For garden birds, just ask me.

The goldfinches all fledged and visit us daily for a drink and some food. ❤️

This cutie pie travelled home with me in the car earlier and had me in stitches at way it was getting my attention and looking out the window 🤣🥰 It’s very light in weight so needs fattening up but is otherwise a healthy chick. Definitely a character this one ❤️ Was found on the side of the road by a lovely teenage girl who cared for it overnight and researched them fully and then got it to me this morning.

What shall we call this one?

Apologies for lack of posts and updates everyone. It’s been mega busy with ensuring the birds are all cared for and we’ve got the majority released now. It’s been a busy season for sure! The heat has definitely been a huge factor!

We still have two young swifts here and three young house martins. We’re hoping to get these five ready in time to migrate with the colonies to Africa.

I need to do an official count up but we’ve had in approx 50 swifts. Sadly 5 had to be put to sleep due to neurological problems and one had a shattered shoulder from an impact injury.
So happy to say the majority have flown beautifully. One has been passed to one of our Avian vets Hannah who also rehabs swifts. That one hasn’t managed to fledge yet but is fully grown. It’s been xrayed and is absolutely fine. So she will try and work her magic on it to see if we can get that one airborne.

Then we have the house martins. They are still coming in even today. We’ve easily had the same number of those if not more! All have fledged apart from three that were sadly too poorly and didn’t make it.

So keeping up with records and updates has been a real struggle. I may need to find someone for next year who can help me with that.

Massive thankyou to David for stepping in and helping me with all the feeding and food prep (cricket dissections 🥴) You really have been a massive help and it’s been so very much appreciated xx

Do we have any pigeon fanciers on here with a huge heart and an aviary or home space for one, two or more unreleasable, disabled or aviary bred ferals? I’ve around 30. Some beautiful colours. They are NOT for racing!! Pics to follow.

Four more swifts released this afternoon. Leaves just 5 swifts here now and clock is ticking to migration time.
Here’s videos of three of the releases. David was too busy watching these through his binoculars to film the fourth 🤣🤣
We did take two others but both just dropped to the ground on take off so we’ll try again and hope it’s just they weren’t ready. Tomorrow is house Martin release day ❤️ we’ve 8 to go. Will test fly them again at home before we take them out tomorrow. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Then we have two swallows who aren’t ready yet.

So far this week we have successfully released 9 swifts and three house martins. Definitely the best part of doing this.

We still have 10 swifts, 13 house martins and two teeny swallows in our care. More are expected with the weather temps rising again.

Please continue to support us, we get through a lot of live food so will always appreciate if anyone wishes to purchase some for our birds.

Two more swifts released today. Barry who was reluctant yesterday was straight off today and Jim took flight after five minutes or so of surveying the area 🤣🥰❤️ happy flying boys 🥰❤️

Two more successful swift releases tonight. Stevie and Charlie flew beautifully. We asked along one of our fabulous swift sos taxi drivers Sandra and her husband Howard. They thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the release.
One further swift Barry just hunkered down and found outdoors a little too overwhelming and strange for tonight so he came back with us to be tried another day. 😍❤️🥰
