Can you help your community

Four knife surrender bins have now been installed at Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley and Lowedges Fire Stations as part of a Home Office initiative delivered in partnership with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and Word 4 Weapons, a national charity working to reduce knife crime and keep communities safer.

The stations were selected as trusted, neutral locations where members of the public can anonymously and safely dispose of knives and other bladed weapons. The bins are located at the front of the stations, operate on a self-service basis, and require no involvement from station crews.

The initiative builds on the success of similar schemes across the country, which have helped remove more than 15,000 knives and offensive weapons from circulation since July 2025.

Having a clear out? Charity shop shut?

Why not pop over to lowedges fire station and donate your out grown kids and adults clothing, handbags, shoes in pairs and linen.

Please don’t add books or toys or any electronics
And please don’t leave your items outside the bin as they may get wet. Just knock on the station door or see a member of staff who will be happy to help you.

Every donated item you donate goes to the Fire Fighters Charity where it can be used to help firefighters and families in need.

Please donate if you can and support your local fire station.

Thankyou
