There's a place in our team for you, come and see what we do by coming to our practice night - Thursday 7.30pm to 9.00pm. This page is about the ringers at St Leonard's Church in Wortley, South Yorkshire. it's about what we do, where we go and to encourage people to have a go at tower bell ringing.

Wow! What a wonderful ringing practice we have had tonight.

14 ringers in the tower, with 4 of them being our ringing friends from Castleton. It's always a pleasure ringing and having joint practice sessions together. ❤️🔔

We have rang a mixture of: plain hunt on 5, 7 and 8; plain courses of plain bob doubles; 60 changes of plain bob doubles; plain courses of Grandsire doubles.

The ringers of Castleton and Wortley are helping each other progress and being apart of that journey is just spectacular!

Another night to remember and we are awaiting our next joint session.

10 ringers for Sunday service ringing this morning, and what an AMAZING ring we had! 🔔❤️

We managed a lovely mix of ringing: rounds, call changes, Plain Hunt on 7 (video), and even 120 changes of Plain Bob Doubles!

At this rate, we’re going to need more bells in the tower… 🤣🔔

It’s honestly fantastic to see how far we’re coming as a band. We really are a wonderful team!

After a spontaneous decision to have pizzas after a ringing session last summer, we decided to do it again.
So, this week's practice was tonight rather than the usual Thursday. We brought the time slightly earlier, and shortened the session - of course, we still built up an appetite by ringing: plain bob doubles, Grandsire doubles, call changes and Plain Bob Triples.

It has truely been a wonderful and memorable evening, proving there is more to bellringing than pulling a rope and making a noise.

We really are friends who ring together.

You will have to imagine a group photo of 13 people eating pizza outside of .... we were too busy eating and chatting to take one haha.

The Wortley Ringers are on tour again!

We have joined some of the Hope Valley Ringers this afternoon, having a joint ring at St Peters in Hope and St Edmund un Castleton, followed by a pub meal.

It has been an afternoon filled with ringing: rounds/call changes, plain hunt, Plain Bob Doubles and Grandsire Doubles. Each tower has 8 unique bells, which are a pleasure to ring.

Happy Bell sunday!
Hoping you've all had a wonderful time ringing today.

We had 11 of our ringers this morning, ringing a mixture of: rounds, call changes, Plain Bob Doubles and Grandsire Doubles. Different ringers were calling go and stop for the methods, and we've had an excellent time ringing for Sunday Service.

St Dunstan is known as the Patron Saint of Bellringers due to his experimentation in early forging of bells in the 900’s AD. It is this reason we have chosen a Sunday near his feast day (19th May) that does not conflict with any other significant days in the Church calendar to promote Bell Sunday; a day where the contribution of bells and Bellringers to the life of the Church is recognised.
