SUPPORT THE DRAX 15
Mondays September 22nd & 29th

Last summer, as far right violence spread across the country, the police chose to spend millions preventing a peaceful climate camp focusing on Drax from going ahead. Of the 25 people who were pre-emptively arrested, 15 have been charged with ‘going equipped to lock on’ and will stand trial at Leeds Magistrates Court this autumn, starting on 22 September and expected to last until 2nd October.

The 15 protesters were arrested pre-emptively, whilst planning a peaceful protest camp against Drax, the UK’s single largest carbon emitter – now emitting more than the next four largest UK polluters combined and more than the six most carbon-intensive gas power plants put together.

This is part of an escalating pattern of state repression, silencing of peaceful protest and distracting attention from the real harms our government is complicit in.

Join us in Leeds to stand in solidarity with the Drax 15 and to show Drax we will continue to exercise our right to peaceful protest and speak out about their dirty business practices.

MAKE THEM PAY NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION
12pm. Saturday 20 September, Portland Place, London

Make Them Pay is an alliance representing millions of workers, citizens and communities across Britain, with three key demands:

1. Tax the super-rich
The NHS is crumbling, schools are underfunded, energy bills keep rising – and billionaires keep getting richer. But politicians are choosing to balance the books on the backs of the poorest people. It’s time to tax the super-rich and use this money to fund the services we all depend on.

2. Protect workers, not billionaires
The economy should work for the people who keep the country running, not corporations and billionaires. Our government must prioritise creating decent, well-paid, unionised jobs for everyone in every community, and supporting the renewable industries of the future, rather than preserving extreme wealth for a few at the top.

3. Make polluters pay
Half the world’s emissions come from a handful of fossil fuel companies. Polluting corporations across a host of sectors have known about the danger they’re putting us all in for decades. The people who have made trillions knowingly destroying nature, and putting our futures at risk, must foot the bill for cleaning up the mess they’ve created.

There is a subsidised coach (£15 per ticket) from Sheffield going to the event and you can book your ticket here https://actionnetwork.org/ticketed_events/coach-sheffield-to-london/?
