Walkley Edge

Walkley Edge Artists’ Group had unusual beginnings, appearing almost fully formed from our local Festival. The Walkley Festival is an annual summer event celebrating the local community and as part of this event, one year a local artist offered to host an Arts Show. The response to this was stunning, and it became clear that a lot of talent and creativity resided within a very small area. After a

few years of the annual exhibition, we formed our own group, called ‘Walkley Edge’ and now exhibit together, not just in Walkley but further afield. Growing from the community as we have, the group has not formed around any single medium, but many artforms are encompassed within the group – sculpture, ceramics, glass, painting, printing, photography and design and architecture are all included, and this has made for some very interesting exhibitions as well as new collaborations. We are all at different stages too – some just beginning, some established, some amateur and some making a living from our artwork. One thing we have in common though is the willingness to share our knowledge and experiences and work together to support our growth as artists and as members of our community.
