We're pleased to have supported this new snooker-themed street art for Victoria's Snooker Academy- Sheffield.

Created by Zoe Genders Art the piece celebrates Sheffield’s deep connection to snooker. The Academy plays an important role in Sheffield’s sporting and cultural scene, and it’s great to see that recognised through this striking addition to our community.

Projects like this help bring colour, creativity and local identity into our city centre - something we’re always keen to champion. Take a look next time you’re passing!

Thanks too to Lick Of Paint Fest for coordinating.

🎨 A mural in the making…

Take a behind-the-scenes look at this striking new piece on The Red Lion (Charles Street), created by street artist RUOK with support from Sheffield BID.

This work-in-progress video captures not just the artistry, but the story behind it - exploring themes of ADHD, mental health, and the connection between art and nature.

A huge thank you to Mikey aka RUOK and Square Two Media for bringing the process to life.

Take a closer look around the city centre and you may well have noticed an increasing number of pieces of street art that are appearing in various locations.

Some you may already be familiar with...

Take the stunning 'Reverie' by Peachzz (voted Street Art Cities' second Best in the World in 2024) and the imposing 'Rivers & Hills' by Rob Lee and INSA in the area around Pound's Park.

Along with a number of other pieces that have been installed over the past few years, we are seeing walls and spaces transformed before our very eyes.

As part of our commitment to improving the welcome, cleanliness and vibrancy across the city centre, we have recently had the pleasure to work with three talented artists to develop targeted interventions focussed on gateways, arrival points and - what we would commonly classify as - neglected spaces.

These recent commissions include working with street artists Enso (on a vacant building on Rockingham Gate) RUOK (at the Red Lion pub on Charles Street) and Big Mak (at Sheffield Futures on Division Street).

By working with established artists and responding directly to business feedback, we're aiming to deliver highly visible improvements that support confidence, footfall, investment and an improved visitor experience.

You can find out a bit more about these three installations, and our wider work in the city centre, on our website - sheffieldbid.com/news-updates 👀

⭐Freelance Artist Opportunity 👩🏾‍🎨🎨

We’ve got a very exciting opportunity available for an artist to join us at MCM Comic Con in London at the end of May.

We are looking for an artist to create portraits and illustrations of visitors who are sharing their love of videogames through cosplay. This would involve creating portraits of people dressed as videogame characters (wearing costumes) who are attending this event. These illustrations could be created digitally or via traditional art mediums.

The art created will go on to form part of a new exhibition centred around gaming communities at the National Videogame Museum.

🗓 Deadline for applications - 8th May
