Today's theme for National Child Contact Centre Week is 'Through the Child's Eyes'.

At Buzz, we work hard to make Family Time as fun, child-focused and child-led as possible.
Wherever we can, children are encouraged to choose where they'd like to spend their Family Time, giving them an opportunity to have their voice heard and helping them feel more comfortable and involved in the experience.

We've had some fantastic choices over the years- take a look at some of the photos below!

We offer Family Time both at Buzz and out in the community, whenever it's safe and practical to do so. Whether it's a trip to the park, a visit to a fairground or time spent together doing something a child enjoys, these moments help create positive memories and strengthen family relationships.

And if we're being honest... our Family Time Supervisors love it too! 😊

At Buzz, we believe that being listened to can make a real difference.
That's why we're really excited to share that we'll soon be offering a Children's Listening Service.

We already offer a Listening Service to our staff team and to parents, delivered by our brilliant trained listener, Julia. Very soon, Julia will complete her training to become a children's listener too, meaning we'll be able to offer dedicated listening sessions to children who need the time and space to share their thoughts and feelings.

Having space to talk and be listened to helps people process experiences, make sense of their emotions and feel less alone.
For children, having a safe, neutral space to talk can support emotional wellbeing, build confidence and strengthen resilience, particularly during times of change and uncertainty.

Our listening sessions offer a calm, supportive environment where children can share at a pace that feels right for them. There is no pressure to find solutions or have all the answers – the focus is simply on being heard, understood and supported.

We would absolutely love to be able to offer this service free of charge to all children who need it because we know how important it is. However, as a small charity, we can't currently do this without additional support.
That's why we're looking for corporate partners who can help us make this happen. If you, your organisation, or someone you know may be able to support us, we'd love to hear from you.

Together, we can help ensure more children have access to the support they really need.

At Buzz, putting children first means creating opportunities for every child to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a way that works for them.
That's why we offer Wishes and Feelings Work to all children, helping them express what's on their mind and ensuring their voice is heard.

We use a range of tools tailored to each child's age and stage of development, including worry jars, worry clouds and worry trees. These activities help us understand how a child is feeling and, where appropriate, help us share this with the parent or family member they will be seeing.

We also ensure children with additional needs can communicate in ways that feel comfortable and accessible to them. Our amazing team member, Nicola, has extensive knowledge and experience of supporting children with additional needs and is always finding new ideas, resources and approaches to help every child feel included and understood.

We also offer Life Story Work, delivered by our fantastic Social Worker Linda, to help children understand and process their experiences in a safe and supportive environment. Life Story Work is a flexible approach that is tailored to each child and can be particularly helpful when:

👉 There has been a long gap since a child last saw a parent.
👉 A child feels their voice isn't being heard in co-parenting decisions.
👉 A child feels anxious about spending time with a parent they don't live with.

At Buzz, we know that every child is different. By listening, adapting and responding to their individual needs, we help children feel safe, supported and heard.

At Buzz, we know that not every child finds it easy to put their feelings into words.

That's why we use Zones of Regulation posters to help children communicate how they're feeling, particularly if they struggle to express themselves verbally.

Children can show us which zone they're in before or during their Family Time session, helping us to understand how they're feeling in that moment. They can also use this as a way of communicating with their family member if they need to.

We understand that it can take time for children to build trust and feel confident around new people and unfamiliar situations. Sometimes, a child may not yet feel able to tell us how they're truly feeling.

But often, one point at a poster is all it takes.
That one small action can tell us everything we need to know and allows us to offer the right support at the right time.

At Buzz, we believe every child should have a voice, even when words feel difficult.

At Buzz, putting children first starts before Family Time even begins.

Before every Family Time session, we offer a pre-visit. Wherever possible, we encourage children to come into Buzz beforehand so they can see the space, meet the member of the team who will be supporting them, and become familiar with their surroundings.

If an in-person pre-visit isn’t possible, we take the time to ask children about themselves- what they enjoy, what helps them feel comfortable and whether they have any worries.

What children tell us helps shape their experience with us. From choosing the room they’d like to use and the toys they’d like to play with, to remembering the little things that matter to them, we make sure their voice is at the centre.

Sometimes it’s something simple like a child telling us they’ve recently been to the cinema to see a particular film and making sure those character toys are ready for their next visit.

These small details can make a big difference. Every child deserves to feel heard, valued and supported.

We’re excited to be taking part in National Child Contact Centre Week 2026 (15th-21st June). 😁

This year’s theme, 'Putting Children First', is a reminder of why Child Contact Centres/Family Time Centres are so important- ensuring children’s voices, experiences and wellbeing remain at the heart of every decision following family separation.

At Buzz, we’re proud to support children and families through our Family Time services, helping children maintain safe, positive and meaningful relationships with the people who matter most to them.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing more about the difference this support makes, the role of NACCC-accredited Family Time Centres, and why putting children first matters every single day.

We’d love your support in sharing our posts to help raise awareness of the vital services available to separated families.
