On the back of The Sportsman Beerhouse post, a favourite with some of the PLP team, we are waiting to find out how we can work with TransPennine Express Trains once the Platform 1 area is upgraded, under TRU work schedules with a new emergency exit and fencing. Unclear if P1 will have a new waiting shelter. We are keen within to work with train operators, Network Rail and TRU team to make the platform area for the Sheffield bound rail service, a pleasant and comfortable waiting space. As yet we are unclear what can be acheived. Our apologies for the run down state of affairs, but no point installing any community projects until TPE share their vision for that end of station which we hope will be inkeeping with the rest of the station improvements!

In this shared post it mentions Pen*stone for bus replacement on Northern and National Rail websites re engineering closures. The bus replacement is between Huddersfield and Lockwood on Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday. See additional images as examples in the comments. The best advice is to check your journey to exactly the station you want to catch the train from and to on Northern's journey planner. That way any bus replacement will be highlighted.

AI or not it's good to be prepared!

PLATFORM NOTICE: SOMEONE HAS BROUGHT A FOLDING CHAIR

Visitors to Bramblewick Vale Heritage Railway are reminded that seating is provided.

This clarification follows the arrival of one gentleman with his own folding chair, carried confidently under one arm and deployed beside Platform One without warning.

Station Manager Trevor Hainsworth, 51, observed the chair from a cautious distance.

“It changed the atmosphere,” Trevor said. “Not badly. Just completely.”

Ticket Clerk Brian Ellis, 67, confirmed that the railway has benches.

“They are visible,” Brian said. “Several have backs.”

The gentleman explained that he simply preferred to be prepared.

“I didn’t know what seating would be available,” he said, while sitting three feet from an empty bench.

Platform Supervisor Sheila Cole, 66, assessed the situation carefully.

“If one person brings a chair,” Sheila said, “others may begin thinking in terms of furniture.”

Buffet Manager Brenda Hawkins, 68, was less concerned.

“If he can sit down without making it everyone else’s business,” Brenda said, “I’ve no objection.”

Matters became more complex when two nearby visitors began looking at the chair with interest.

One asked where he had bought it.

Another described it as “sensible.”

Within minutes, the folding chair had become less of a chair and more of a statement.

Fireman Colin Marsh, 64, admitted he understood the appeal.

“You know where you are with your own chair,” Colin said. “Usually exactly where you put it.”

The railway has confirmed that folding chairs are not banned, but passengers are asked to deploy them with restraint, awareness and no sense of having started a movement.

Benches remain available.

Personal seating remains under observation.
