The dartathon that everyone has been eagerly anticipating finally takes place tomorrow - and there's still time for you to show your support 🎯

With Flyford Connect and SYC joining up as partners earlier this year, Flyford's Marketing Manager Mike and SYC's Fundraising Officer Nick will be working together to take on this mammoth game of darts.

The challenge will be taking place from 12pm at The Red Lion Heeley and you're more than welcome to come along to cheer the lads on; they might need all the support they can get...

We need your support to ensure that our Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign makes a massive difference for the young people that we work with 🫵

We need to raise at least £1,000 in pledges to make our campaign eligible to potentially receive Big Give Champion Funding during the live campaign - which would enable campaign donations have double the impact 🤩

We’re looking for individuals, community groups and organisations to pledge £100 or more as part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge before the deadline of Friday 28th August 🎅

All of the funds raised during our Christmas Challenge campaign young carers and young people impacted by substance use are able to receive our direct support through one-to-ones, group sessions and holiday activities 🩵

Next week is A-Level results day - everyone at SYC hopes that you get the results you are wanting 🤞

UCAS has an online tool that pulls together nearly 800 scholarships, bursaries and grants all in one place, highlighting funding opportunities available may be adding to financial uncertainty for prospective students.

The tool enables you to easily check what is on offer at universities and colleges across the country. Awards can range from £500 to full tuition fees for both UK and international applicants, and can also cover the cost of accommodation, meals and travel. Students can use the tool to search for awards matched to their background, achievements or chosen course and teachers & advisers can use it to find funding options tailored to their students’ needs.

Earlier this month, SYC took 9 young carers from years 7-10 on the train to the University Centre Rotherham to join other young carers for Hepp’s “Go Further Go Higher” programme, which offer the invaluable chance experience further and higher education 👩‍🎓

During the session, young people were given a a tour of the campus and took part in engineering and business workshops throughout the day. These workshops included creating an island for pirates to defend themselves from attack and playing the big boss of a giant supermarket chain 😁

They also heard from student ambassadors about their journeys into Higher Education and beyond, before the day was rounded off with year 9-10 students who are now leaving the programme received certificates to a round of applause. It was great to see the young people make new friends and thoughts about further/higher education 🙌

Sunday 9th August is the day of darting destiny for SYC's Fundraising Officer Nick and Flyford Connect's Marketing Manager Mike as they will be taking on their 100,001 charity dartathon 🙌

After unfortunately having to postpone this challenge previously, the lads are chomping at the bit to get to the oche, even if their practice has been a little non-existent 👀

They'll be taking on their dartathon at the Red Lion Heeley, and would love to have supporters to cheer on from the sideline from 12pm onwards - and potentially even get involved! Don't worry if you can't make it on the day, there'll be a livestream from the pub, as well as updates during the challenge 😁

Huge congratulations to Bents Green School and Astrea Academy Sheffield Primary who are SYC's 'School of the Month' for June and July 2026 🙌

Our June School of the Month, Bents Green, have received this award is recognition of the hard work that has been put into developing accessible resources that raise awareness and help identify young carers with communication needs. This has included a display board and their own young carers identification questionnaire using widget symbols👏

Our July School of the Month, Astrea Primary, have received their award in recognition of their exceptional commitment to student, parent and staff awareness, identification and support of young carers through the 'Our School Cares' project. Astrea Primary have also delivered extremely successful staff training and class assemblies, as well as created display boards and individual support plans for young carers👏
