A year ago we had just finished two intense days of recording. Working with an engineer at the other end of the country amongst massive work schedules has made this slow, but we are very very nearly ready to launch our Shostakovich 8th quartet recording onto YouTube, with Tchaikovsky Souvenir de Florence soon to follow. Come and hear us live in just over a month in the beautiful St Edmund’s Church in Castleton in our season finale, joined once again by superb young clarinettist Sofia in the Mozart Clarinet Quintet.

After a successful Monteverdi Vespers ‘liturgical performance’ yesterday, our next concert, and season finale, is this: on the other side of A levels, huge marking schedules, seven day working weeks, and other things preoccupying us at the moment! But it’s wonderful to be able to play this beautiful programme again! Do come: a lovely rural venue steeped in culture and history! Can’t wait to get through next few weeks!!!

If you missed it, or if you would like as several have said to hear it again, please come!

David reflects back almost exactly two years to setting up WRE. ‘We do everything ourselves. Even our logo reflects our ethos of collaboration’ he recalls. The original idea came from David’s mum, who is an artist. ‘We all had a go, and I came up, I think with the idea of incorporating a string instrument f-hole. The final design was perfected by who turned it into this!’ WRE has events on May 17 and June 27 before a summer recess. Do watch for details!
