Theo's Burns Club Theo’s Burns Club provides social opportunities for children & families who've had a burn injury

Theo’s Burns Club provides opportunities for children who have been injured by a burn to attend social and therapeutic events to help them to come to terms with their painful injuries and treatment. They are offered these opportunities until they are 16 and move to the adult service. The Burns Unit at Sheffield Children’s Hospital treats over 450 new children a year and all of these children are o

ffered access to Theo’s Burns Club. The care these children receive is complex and extremely painful and can involve repeated surgery over many years. Many of the children have to come to terms with intensive daily treatment, carried out by their families and also need to wear pressure garments to improve the appearance of their scars and attend hospital for treatment on a regular basis. The long term effects of a burn injury are not just physical, these children have to learn to come to terms with their scarring and the effect that has on their school life and friendships. The aim of Theo’s Burns Club is to enable these children to learn to deal with their scarring and treatment through attending specialised camps where they can meet other children with burn injuries and take part in exciting activities, with health professionals providing expert support. The club also provides regular social events for children and their families to discuss the impact of their injuries, such as bowling nights for teenagers or swimming sessions, Christmas parties and days out.

We are proud to support Eva as she raises £1,000 to print 1,000 copies of Adam and The Light of the Phoenix to donate to hospital staff and families impacted by burn injuries across the UK.

Most burn injuries in young children are scalds caused by hot liquids and children under five are the most affected. This beautifully written, age appropriate book has been created especially to help very young burn survivors begin to process what can be a frightening and traumatic experience. Through gentle storytelling and symbolic illustrations, this resource supports emotional healing and can be used by parents and psychological professionals to help children make sense of their burn injury and recovery.

Printed copies will be donated to specialist Burns Units and families, in partnership with Children’s Burns Trust, with free digital copies also available.

If you would like to support this meaningful project and help place this book into the hands of families who need it most, please consider donating via the link: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/eva-alamurova
