Save The Grange Care Home The Grange care home in Eckington at risk of being closed. Join and help us fight against this!

03/04/2026

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along this journey to try and save this wonderful care home from closure.

Everything seems to have gone radio silence from DCC, media and local MPs who have been supportive.

Sadly, we have been informed The Grange will be closing regardless along with other care homes. Devastating news for the amazing staff and residents who now have to leave this family home.

The residents who obviously don't want to leave their home. Some who are not in a condition to be moved. The DCC have no care or consideration. Other care homes locally cannot meet all the residents needs and family now left to sort this due to a bad decision to close this lovely home.

Such a huge shame and massive loss to the community. When there were offers to buy the home as it stands, which the DCC rejected for unknown reasons.

We were wrongly informed wouldn't be closed and to be sold as they currently stand. Which appears to be another tactic DCC are trying to pull. One massive failure not only to past and present residents but all the staff too.
The staff and residents have been left in the dark for nearly 2 years. With no support, limited last minute decision updates or check-ins. Yet happy to break this news to staff, residents and family 1 week before Christmas!?

Despite fighting to Save the Grange care home we are back down this never ending road.

So cruel to mess with the residents time for much needed care and support they deserve. The amazing staff at the Grange who care for so many just like family do not deserve this !

These care homes have been run down and neglected over many years, but they are fantastic building, staffed by carers with decades of experience and they are the beloved homes to their residents and an important part of their communities.  UNISON Derbyshire does not believe care should be priva...

Thank you to everyone for your support. Unfortunately the Grange has been confirmed to be closed. Letters have been sent this morning.....
Strange how the decision was only made yesterday apparently very speedy work!...although we've known differently for a long time.

We were informed yesterday that The Grange may have interest for private buyers...funny again yet no decisions were supposed to have been made, so how would they have known this previously if it hadn't already been discussed as an opportunity!

We fought so hard with campagins, contacting counsellors, MPs, Age UK, Unison, BBC radio, ITV and more..
Despite all the press DCC ignored to accept the full amount of signatures by reporting incorrectly the amount of signatures gathered, Emails with no or vague responses, some MPs who wanted to support us haven't even responded since. ( Guess their votes counted then )

Staff were kept in the dark and allowed, residents and families voices or opportunities to discuss concerns were blocked or ignored " not our department etc. It's absolutely been a horrible time for everyone involved with no support, answers or empathy shown.

Derbyshire County Council should be ashamed of themselves for making such serious cut backs bunch of cowards covering up their mistakes. Which now is upsetting so many people's lives

It's about time the residents were put high priority as they were originally promised in a letter.
No questions or concerns have been answered by the DCC.
Elderly residents are left sick with worry when they should not be left feeling like this for months at this time in their lives!

Staff not allowed their say, families / friends have so many worries and concerns with no support for anyone involved. Just blocked at every opportunity... it seems decisions have already been made despite the fact it's not yet been declared official...yet.

However, no action from DCC speaks louder than their words!

Clearly all of the residents and staff under the possible 11 care home closures are just number crunches without real care, compassion or any empathy for those involved.

The UK’s largest union has welcomed support from a significant number of Derbyshire MPs over shared concerns regarding Derbyshire County Council’s proposals to close up to 11 care homes and eight elderly day centres.
