Amy's House

Amy's House To improve the quality of life for children & young adults with complex needs. For any enquiries please contact [email protected]

Amy’s House was set up by Maurice and Meriel Littlewood after they experienced first hand the lack of facilities available for children and families dealing with special needs. When their granddaughter Amy contracted meningitis, they recognised how necessary respite facilities are to give families help and support when they need it most as their other granddaughter Molly had severe special needs.

Sadly after Amy’s death aged 8 they set up the Amy’s House charity in her memory to provide her sister and others with this much needed service. Our Values

Our collective personal and individual experiences contribute to the empathy that drives Amy’s House. We work to reduce the ignorance and prejudice of individuals with special needs through increasing awareness and understanding and bringing about a greater empathy. Community spirit: We are an organisation of local people who work together as a team for a mutually positive result. We have grown organically through the altruistic spirit within the hearts and minds of the community around us. Holistic: We aim to promote health and fitness of the body as well as the mind for the families and children we work with and we do this within the stimulating and safe context of Amy’s House. Trusted role model: Families and children put their trust in us and because of this, we will always act with their best interests in mind. It is our aim to be solid role models within society and it is important that we always deliver on our promise to bring joy and respite care to families and their very special children with special needs. Caring: We are totally dedicated to the children and the families we look after, the people who work for us and the community around us. Passionate: Above all, everyone within Amy’s House does what they do because they love it, and that’s why Amy’s House such a happy, supportive environment. Our Base

We are based at Arbourthorne Lodge, Guildford Avenue, Sheffield S2 2PL in the entrance to Norfolk Park

A working partnership
Amy’s House is run by a voluntary management committee comprising of directors who work in partnership with SNIPS. Our excellent specialist care staff are partly funded by grants, but other than that we rely almost entirely upon fundraising and corporate partners. It’s through fundraising that we’re able to continue to offer what one parent referred to as “an oasis in our lives” completely free of charge. The only time we do charge is when a parent or carer cannot stay with their child and even then it is only a nominal fee of £1 per child per hour. WE HAVE NO PAID FUNDRAISERS!! ALL MONEY GOES DIRECTLY TO THE CARE AND SUPPORT OF OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.

Our staff are what makes our service, and this month we're proud to celebrate two outstanding team members who have gone above and beyond.

Kathryn from Amy's House and Doll from Molly's Mates have both received Staff Appreciation Awards in recognition of their positive attitudes, dedication, and commitment to their work.

Their hard work and caring approach make a real difference every day, and we're grateful to have them as part of our team.

Thank you, Kathryn and Doll!
