Its this week and we wanted to spotlight the work and support we get from our team of volunteers who help with essential office functions, support service delivery and also represent us at events and activities .

We thought long and hard about what we wanted to say about them and why they chose to work with us and decided - why not let them tell you themselves!

Click on the link below to hear first hand from the team - if you have ever thought about volunteering but weren't quite sure - they all seem to have the same advice

Mind Launches New Smoke‑Free Support Service

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new service designed to help individuals go smoke‑free — a positive step forward for health, wellbeing and long‑term change.

This programme forms part of a city‑wide initiative supporting adults and young people who want to quit smoking. We know that stopping isn’t easy. Smoking is often linked to stress and anxiety and breaking habits and patterns of behaviour can feel overwhelming.

That’s why our approach is compassionate, person‑centred and grounded in an understanding of mental health. We work with people to develop and sustain coping strategies that are part of sustainable plans for change.

Our aim is simple: to help people feel supported, understood and empowered as they take steps toward a smoke‑free future.

If you’d would like to know more about the service, check out the website https://www.sheffieldmind.co.uk/smoking-cessation-support-at-sheffield-mind

We’re putting our best feet forward tomorrow for Marcus Movers and delighted to confirm that we will have a guest leader!

Local historian Steve will be leading the group on a guided tour of the Sheffield General Cemetery, sharing some of the great local history that 's contained therein. Its a fascinating space and there has been a lot of work done to restore nature to the site and to make it accessible to the local public so there is a lot to see, hear and smell.

If you fancy joining the walk, just pop along to the Sheffield Mind Wellbeing Centre for 10.30 a.m. Be sure to wear comfy shoes and brin g a brolly in case there is a shower.

We waved goodbye to our brilliant placement students Eve and Billie today (and to Emily, who wrapped up a couple of weeks earlier). What a year it’s been. Their energy, curiosity and can‑do spirit have been invaluable and we are grateful for their contribution to our work.

From holding down reception to supporting groups, training, promotion and events, they’ve thrown themselves into everything we do and added real value at . They’ve grown, we’ve grown and the place won’t feel quite the same without them.

They might be leaving but we intend to keep in touch and drag them back for events at every opportunity.

We asked for feedback on their placement experience, and Billie summed it up perfectly:

“I would highly recommend a placement year at Sheffield Mind to other university students. The opportunities provide valuable professional experience while encouraging personal growth, creativity, and collaboration within a supportive workplace.”

We couldn't have said it better!

We had a delightful Marcus Movers session today, enjoying the sunshine at the Botanical Gardens!

As part of National Walking Month and our commitment to being a Menopause Friendly Employer, we invited staff to take part in Sheffield Mind’s weekly Marcus Movers walking session.

Led by Jude, the walk took place at a comfortable and inclusive pace around the Botanical Gardens, with fascinating local history shared along the way.

Sheffield Mind is proud to be a Menopause Friendly Employer and also offers Menopause Awareness Training for employers. The training helps organisations understand menopause, recognise the impact it can have on staff, and identify practical ways to support women in the workplace.

The Marcus Movers drop in walking group takes place every Wednesday from 10:30am-12pm, meeting at the Wellbeing Centre 110 Sharrow Lane, Sheffield, S11 8AL.
