Sheffield Welfare Committee

Sheffield Welfare Committee We are students that run events & campaigns raising awareness of student welfare issues.

We organise and run exciting campaigns and events in the Students' Union, University and Student Villages to engage with students on a range of welfare issues, from housing and budgeting to alcohol awareness and mental health. Working with the Welfare Officer, the Activities Officer and other committees, we work hard to ensure all students are represented and know how to get help on the issues that affect them!

Our Story

We organise campaigns and events in Sheffield Students' Union, around the campus of the University of Sheffield and in the University’s student villages (Endcliffe and Ranmoor) to engage with students on a range of welfare issues, our over-arching topic areas being: Housing, Health, Safety and Money & Workers.

We have Action Group Leaders (aka: AGLs who lead campaigns around each of these topic areas. They each organise their own campaigns, but collaboration between AGLs is common, and this year there will be one such collaboration between our Safety and Health AGLs about the issue of Sexual Harassment. Though we have designated leaders, we’re always welcoming of who wish to contribute to organising and/or running the event - volunteering yourself in any way is massively appreciated and a good way of contributing your bit to tackling welfare issues that are important to you.

Working with our Welfare Officer Beren Maddison, the Welfare Network & Services the University provides, external organisations (such as the NHS and Door43) and other committees & societies (such as the University of Sheffield B**b Team this year), we work hard to ensure all students are represented and know how to get help on the issues that affect them.
