We’re incredibly grateful to The Green Estate CIC and Manor Fields Park for welcoming our trainee Carem during his 10 week paid work placement. He’s taken on a wide range of outdoor tasks, all focused on caring for and improving our local green spaces. We’ve loved seeing his pride in what he’s achieved, his strong work ethic, and his willingness to learn from everyone around him.

A huge thank you to Sally from Soroptimist Sheffield and everyone who joined the afternoon tea. We’re so grateful for the £500 raised for Grow - their support is incredibly valuable and helps us continue empowering young people across Sheffield.

Last week was a busy one for our trainees from The Growth Company! Lots of activities were enjoyed including:

🪱 Composting and learning how to keep our soil healthy

🌟 Exploring their personal skills and how these link to their longer‑term goals

✂️ Pruning our summer-fruiting raspberry canes

🌧 Rainwater harvesting

🫛 Veg harvesting and maintaining the veg beds

🐞 Completing a mini bio‑blitz to observe the biodiversity in a small section of the farm and practise their “noticing” skills

🔎 Exploring the factors that affect our farm environment - and comparing these to the factors that can shape family life

We're so impressed with their resilience and willingness to get stuck, even through the sporadic rain showers!

Alongside their paid work placements, our trainees return to the Grow Farm each week to connect and work on essential skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience.

Recently, they’ve harvested farm produce, worked together on a woodwork construction project and explored what their next steps will look like beyond the programme.

At our recent trainee Catch Up, we ran a Tatakizome workshop using plants and flowers gathered from the farm, hammering them to release their natural dyes. It’s a lovely, mindful process that encourages you to explore your surroundings and discover the pigments hidden within plants. We’re so proud of the beautiful results our trainees created.
