We've been super busy with our Music for Dementia in South Yorkshire project. Thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All, we've been able to take music to people living with dementia in a number of settings including wards at Rotherham Hospital.

We've seen curtains drawn back, doors open and people welcome us warmly into their spaces with smiles and kind words. Staff have been amazing at encouraging and supporting patients to join in with the music while taking part themselves too. One patient stated while playing our Freenotes Wing, “that’s the nicest thing that’s happened to me for months”. Visiting family members observed their loved ones being calmer and more settled during and after the music.

We look forward to visiting again in December.

Our hearts are full from our first session making music with women seeking sanctuary as part of the Sheffield New Beginnings Project. We took our box of instruments, which was well-used and everyone explored all of the tuned and untuned percussion instruments. As we jammed together, we were all speaking the same language. Some of the women were kind enough to share their favourite music too. We can't wait to make more music with this wonderful group!

Thanks so much to The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation for supporting this valuable work.

(The picture reads 'Hello' and 'Hello beautiful women' in some of the languages spoken by today's participants.)
