It’s , and we want to shine a light on the stigma men face when it comes to eating disorders.

Whilst there are research gaps relating to eating disorders in men, estimates suggest that around 1 in 4 (25%) (Sweeting et. Al. (2015)) of those with an eating disorder are male.

We know that the current research isn’t representative enough and doesn’t take into account those suffering in silence, suggesting the true number might be much higher.

The good news is that there are a growing number of resources based on lived experience available online. Men are coming forward to share their experience with poor body image, weight-based bullying, and a need for control.

If you are looking to understand the male experience of eating disorders, SYEDA recommends:

Today is World Eating Disorders Action Day 💜

This year’s theme “Breaking Bias, Supporting Families” recognises the important role families and carers play in supporting recovery.

We’ve teamed up with Sheffield Eating Disorder Service to share practical tips and insights from clinicians across both services, offering advice, reassurance, and ways to support loved ones affected by eating disorders as well as challenging some common myths and misconceptions.

If you are in South Yorkshire and need support, both of our services are here to help. See the link in our bio for more information on referrals to SYEDA.
