πŸŽ‰ This Small Charity Week, we're celebrating over 60 years of SHASBAH! πŸŽ‰

SHASBAH began in the 1960s when a group of parents and medical professionals came together to bridge the gap in support for people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, ensuring individuals and families received help beyond surgery and throughout their education and daily lives.

Over the decades, our community has grown, and today we provide regular groups, events, advocacy and practical support with healthcare, housing and education for people across Sheffield and beyond.

As a small charity, none of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our local community.

We are proud to call Sheffield home and deeply grateful for the generosity, kindness and commitment this city has shown us over the past 60 years. Time and again, people have given their time, donations and support to help us be there for our members and their families when they need us most.

This Small Charity Week, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey. Small charities can only thrive when communities stand behind them, and your support has helped change lives.

Here's to continuing that difference together for many years to come. πŸ’™

πŸŽ‰ It's Small Charity Week! πŸŽ‰

Small charities like SHASBAH are deeply rooted in our communities. During Small Charity Week, we're celebrating the families and individuals we support and the difference that local giving makes every day.

Small charities deliver essential support close to home. At SHASBAH, we provide regular groups, events, advocacy and practical support with healthcare, housing and education for people across Sheffield and beyond. Sometimes support close to home can look like:

πŸ‘‹ Arranging to a meet a member with spina bifida who would like to meet others in our group but would like support getting used to travelling independently.
πŸ‘‹ Meeting a member for coffee and helping them with form filling for their child's education support plan.
πŸ‘‹ And we're always there for hospital stays to make sure every person has that friendly face and support they need, and children get a hospital pack to help them through their stay.

These moments can make a huge difference to the people and families we support.

Every donation, volunteer hour and fundraising effort helps us continue providing this vital support to our community.

This Small Charity Week, thank you for helping us make a difference. Follow us throughout the week to learn more about our work and how you can support SHASBAH.

πŸ’™ Together, we're changing lives.

πŸ™ Please like, share, and donate if you can β€” every contribution makes a difference. Donations are greatly needed and appreciated! πŸ™

This Saturday, Elissia is taking on an incredible challenge: walking 100km in just 22.5 hours to raise vital funds for SHASBAH.

Elissia is one of our amazing supporters and has also served as a volunteer trustee in recent years. Like many of the people we help across Sheffield, she lives with hydrocephalus and has undergone multiple surgeries herself. She understands firsthand the difference SHASBAH's services make to people living with hydrocephalus and/or spina bifida.

Every like, share, and donation helps us continue providing essential support to those who need it most.

πŸ’– Good luck, Elissia, and thank you for taking on this incredible challenge! πŸ’–

πŸ’™ Parent Carers Week 2026 πŸ’™

This Parent Carers Week, we're celebrating the
incredible parents and carers in our community and
recognising the vital role they play every single day.
Thank you for all that you do.

At SHASBAH, we know that caring for a child or family
member with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus can
sometimes feel isolating. Our parent and carer groups
are about building a community where families can
share experiences, support one another, celebrate
successes, and find understanding from people who
truly get it.

Every conversation, friendship, and shared story helps
create a stronger, more carer-friendly community.

Together, we're building a community where no family
has to face their journey alone.

πŸ’™ Thank you for joining SHASBAH Together! πŸ’™

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at SHASBAH Together last week. It was wonderful to see you all come together to connect and celebrate the strength of our community.

Whether you attended for the first time or have been part of our journey for years, we are grateful that you chose to spend the day with us.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to our much-celebrated speaker, Andy Kershaw, our wonderful volunteers, our event sponsors, Irwin Mitchell, Steve and Steve from Sheffield Steelers Wheelchair Basketball Club, all our exceptional business supporters, and everyone who worked hard behind the scenes to make the event possible.

We enjoyed flower crafts with the fabulous Rose from Woodland Wellbeing, live music from Hair of the Dog, and we were blown away by our members who took to the stage for SHASBAH's Got Skills! 🀩

We have such a talented bunch in our community - from singing, dancing and wheelies to clarinet playing, joke-telling and Name That Book. We hope you're as proud of your talents as we are!

We hope you left feeling inspired, informed and connected. We are already looking forward to bringing everyone together again soon.

Thank you for being part of the SHASBAH community. ❀️
