Sheffield NEU, Educators, activists, and communities stood shoulder to shoulder in London with hundreds and thousands of other activists—because silence is not an option when it comes to justice.

Yet moments like this are too often overlooked, while division gets the spotlight. That has to change.

As the war escalates, we are witnessing the devastating impact on ordinary people in Iran and Lebanon. Schools, homes, and hospitals have been bombed, and the destruction is immense. Civilians—especially children—are paying the highest price.

We must raise our voices for peace and for the protection of civilians.

After years of austerity and below-inflation pay for educators, the government has now proposed yet another below-inflation, unfunded pay offer spread over three years. Decades of funding cuts have pushed our education system into crisis, creating endless pressures on staff, students, and schools.
The NEU has launched the Save Education campaign — and we must build a strong, united fight to defend both our education system and the educators who keep it going.

Armistice Day – A National Day of Remembrance

Today, on Armistice Day, NEU Sheffield pauses to remember and honour all those who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars, and all who have lost their lives defending others.

We offer our deepest condolences and gratitude to all who have served and sacrificed for peace.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”

NEU Sheffield Statement on the Attack in Manchester

The NEU Sheffield condemns in the strongest terms the appalling attack on the synagogue in Manchester. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and we wish a full and speedy recovery to those who were injured.

Our thoughts and solidarity are with the entire Jewish community at this deeply distressing time. We stand united against hatred and violence in all its forms.

NEU colleagues were in attendance of an Emergency Protest: Stop the Far Right, Defend Refugees demonstration. • other than a couple of thugs in distance, the far-right were nowhere to be seen! A fantastic turnout by activists.

A big shoutout to Sheffield SUTR for organising this.

This was followed by an event “South Yorkshire
Opposing Racism and Far Right Ideas in our
Workplaces and Communities” where trade unionists came together to discuss this pressing issue.

A big well done to NEU colleagues that attended.
