๐ŸŒฟ A Weekend of Art in the Gardens ๐ŸŽจ

A few FOBs volunteers went to the preview evening of Art in the Gardens. There is a real treat in store for anyone going over the weekend.

The stunning elephant tower was made by David Mayne, the sculptor who made our very own bear in the Bear Pit.

Some of us couldnโ€™t resist trying the badger go-kart, promoting Roundabout, a charity working with homeless young people in South Yorkshire.

The Pavilions are the perfect place to showcase art, see many original pieces and talk to the artists.

The Mayor and Lady Mayoress enjoyed a preview tour of the Gardens.

There are plant stalls, jewellers, refreshments and many, many artists to enjoy over the weekend. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŽจ

๐ŸŒธ Summer โ€˜Painting with Flowersโ€™ Tour ๐ŸŽจ

Twenty visitors joined us on August 25th.

We started with a quote from Claude Monet: โ€˜My garden is my most beautiful work of art.โ€™ ๐ŸŽจ

Using viewfinders, we explored the Award of Garden Merit borders to see how Klimt might have been inspired for his painting Flower Garden (1907). ๐ŸŒผ

Eric Ravilious used acanthus, or โ€˜bearโ€™s breechesโ€™, to paint the structural leaves, which can also be seen carved into the columns of the Pavilions. ๐ŸŒฟ Inside, we shared a painting of bananas by Gwendoline Clarine Knight, an American artist born in Bridgetown in 1913. ๐ŸŒ Cacti were used by Frida Kahlo in The Love Embrace. ๐ŸŒต

Back outside, the tropical bed reminded us of paintings by Henri Rousseau, who, in spite of never having left France, painted many jungle scenes, including The Snake Charmer and Adam and Eve. ๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

We talked about many other artists as we walked around โ€“ a perfect way to pass an hour on a lovely summer afternoon. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒธ

Looking for a walk that takes in architecture and beautiful gardens?

Have a look at our new leaflet, which takes you on a journey from Broomhill Library, through the Botanical Gardens, and finishes in the General Cemetery. Itโ€™s full of interesting facts about the Bear Pit, the Rose Gardens and Pan Statue, as well as the Pavilions and other places.

You can find the leaflet near the entrance to the Pavilions.

While youโ€™re in there, check out some of the fabulous flowers, including the Kahili Ginger, the banana flower, some cannas, Abutilons, and a protea. ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒฟ
