SHEFFIELD BOXING ACADEMY SUPPORTING 300 YOUNG PEOPLE COULD CLOSE WITHIN WEEKS
A Sheffield boxing gym and youth academy which supports around 300 young people says it could be forced to close within the next two weeks after running out of funding.
Olympia Wellbeing Academy CIC works with youngsters aged 11–16, offering boxing, fitness, self-defence, mentoring, education and work experience. The academy says its work goes beyond sport, providing young people with a safe environment while teaching discipline, respect and responsibility.
Trevor Chrouch from the academy says they urgently need support from local businesses, organisations and charitable foundations to keep the doors open. Sheffield City Council has been approached for comment over the academy's concerns about accessing funding.
Could Sheffield afford to lose a facility supporting hundreds of young people like this?
