It was a heartbreaking day for me yesterday as beautiful Callie and her babies moved on. After 3 weeks, a rescue place came up for them. It's so hard to let go after you've fallen in love and cared for them for so long! I'm especially going to miss Callie - we built a real bond in those 3 weeks. I'm just hopeful she'll now go on to live a happy life and never have to have babies again 🩷

I really want to shout out to Rachel and her crew at who have been a massive mental support through this, and have reassured and guided me along the way. Thank you especially to Rachel for putting up with me calling her at silly o'clock on a Sunday, crying down the phone at her as two babies had to go over the rainbow bridge 🌈

How these places do this, day in and day out I'll never know. They need as much support as they can get and are worth their weight in gold.

I'm absolutely hoping that somewhere down the line, I can meet Callie again 🩷🐾

I have recently been absolutely humbled by the work that animal rescues do 👏🏻👏🏻

Having just one mama cat and 3 kittens is actually turning out to be really quite expensive - I do not know how the rescues do it! And this is before the kittens are eating and before any vet trips!

When I went to collect these beauties, it was because it was an emergency and I felt there was no choice - they were also in my village. I couldn't just ignore them 💔 It was never something I intended to do, but sometimes people need to step up for other living beings and, well, why not be the person that steps up?

To think that as a rescue you have so many people messaging you. You have to consider space, cat welfare, food, specialist milk, bedding, litter trays and litter, toys etc etc. It all adds up! Without even buying food for the kittens yet, I've already spent £300 in two weeks ensuring I have things to give mama the best chance at supporting her kittens.

I find myself wondering - how on EARTH do rescues manage these charges?! And that isn't including vet fees for poorly animals. It just really boggles my mind 🤯

If you find yourself able to donate to a local rescue then please, please do so because I can guarantee every little bit does help! Even the price of a cup of coffee for food / litter will help 🩷🐾

And just a little mention that if anyone wants to donate anything towards the little monsters in my home you can do so through the old YPFB PayPal.

Something a little different...

On Sunday afternoon I saw a post about a mama cat near a main road that had given birth to 5 kittens. I saw some posts online with people saying "I'll have them" and was terrified they'd end up in the wrong hands - so off I went to get them.

Mama is a beautiful thing, but has been straying for at least 6 months. There was a feeder who tried to find an owner, to no avail.

Sunday evening broke me. I noticed the kittens in the 'kitten pile' were struggling to move. I went in, and mama was really good at letting me examine them but something wasn't right. Only one could be separated. Straight off to the emergency vet hospital with the other 4 we went...

The vets managed to save 2, but sadly two others had injuries that they wouldn't survive. I learned something that evening - that scared / young mums can often neglect to fully chew the umbilical cord. Sadly two had wrapped around limbs when wriggling into their pile and amputations on newborn kittens are not viable. If I hadn't taken them in, all 4 in the pile would have died.

I sobbed and sobbed, gave them kisses and told them they mattered and that I was sorry.

And now I'm still sad, but I'm also angry. I'm angry that people don't care enough to spay / neuter their cats. That they let them out to get pregnant, and then this sort of horrendous s**t happens. Those kittens didn't deserve that. Their mama didn't deserve that. People dump kittens - that grow older and are also not done - so they breed. And the problem persists.

And this was just one mama cat. Those poor, poor rescues that are dealing with this daily - I'm not surprised they're at breaking point.

People, please please step up. Neuter / Spay your cats - even if they are indoor!

Mama and her surviving 3 kitties are doing well 🩷

Fireworks are no longer simply a form of celebration. Their misuse is increasingly contributing to anti-social behaviour, intimidation, noise disturbance and fear for people, pets and wildlife.

It's about time something changed.

I have been meaning to write this post for such a long time but I haven't known how to do it. I have been back and forth in my brain a million times and it never seems "right" so I am just going for it. Strap in, it's a long post 🧡

With a very heavy heart, I am writing to share some incredibly difficult news. After much soul-searching, I have made the decision to close down Your Pet Food Bank.

I want to start by apologising. To everyone who has supported us, cheered us on, and believed in our mission—I am so deeply sorry that I cannot carry this flame any longer. The fundraising, begging emails, social media, organising of collections and deliveries (and physically doing these) as well as struggling with storage and with the paperwork that comes with being a CIC have left me drowning and despite having time off since Christmas, I'm still struggling.

When I first started this journey, we were one of the very first Pet Food Banks in the UK. We stepped into a massive gap, driven by a simple desire to keep pets with the families who love them. But over time, the landscape has changed, and the reality of running this rescue has taken a profound toll.

🔹Why We Are Closing - This decision did not come easily, but it has become necessary for a few key reasons:

🔸The Emotional Toll: I entered this work out of deep love for animals, but lately, it has felt like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon. The sheer volume of need, combined with caring so deeply, has led to severe emotional burnout. I have poured everything I have into this, and my tank is completely empty.

🔸Challenges with Accountability: Increasingly, we have faced situations involving the misuse of our services and a heartbreaking lack of accountability from some owners regarding the basic responsibilities of pet ownership. Trying to navigate these systemic issues as a small team has become unsustainable.

🔸A Stronger Safety Net: The silver lining is that the world looks different now than it did when we started. Today, major national charities have stepped up to offer pet food bank support. They have the infrastructure, resources, and scale to deal with this crisis in ways a small independent charity simply cannot. Knowing that these safety nets now exist gives me the peace of mind to finally step away.

🔹What Comes Next
While this chapter is ending, my passion for animal welfare is not. After I take some much-needed time to rest and recharge, I plan to channel my experience into other areas of hands-on rescue work and rehabilitation.

To our donors, volunteers, and community: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You helped us feed thousands of animals and keep families together when they had nowhere else to turn. I will be forever proud of what we achieved together, and I hope you can understand and support this necessary step for my own well-being.

The truth is, I want to close the door but I don't want to bolt it. I just have nothing left in my tank and haven't for a little while. Even writing this post I am in tears. I just have nothing left to give right now.

Thank you for everything, and goodbye...for now ❤️❤️
