Oak valley Hedgehog Rescue

Just admitted a 118 gram female hoglet who was found all alone in a garden with no mum around. She was taken to Whitecross vets in Handsworth and cared for there and then brought to me by Cody (one of the vet nurses). Thankyou.

Following the little girl was a 280 gram male from Renishaw brought by Richard who support feeds hogs in his garden and found the little lad wandering round in the daytime.

As always I’ll do my very best for them. ❤️🦔❤️

Despite being temporarily closed two large hedgehogs have squeezed through the rescue door this week. And I mean squeezed!
The first one arrived Wednesday via my vets after he was taken in by someone from the heeley area of Sheffield. The hog was thoroughly examined under anaesthetic and found to have a bite wound. The fabulous team at Park veterinary hospital cleaned the wound and started this hog on a course of antibiotics and administered pain relief. He has been carefully monitored whilst at the vets and his wound checked again before coming to me.When I collected him he weighed over 1.4kg. He’s a big lad. It’s so important to have a wildlife friendly vet supporting the work I do!
The second hog I collected from birley moor vets this morning after he was taken in by Dawn who releases hedgehogs for me once they have been rehabilitated. This hedgehog was grabbed by a neighbours dog. He weighs just under 800 grams and is one lucky hog.

Please leave out lots of shallow bowls of cool fresh water for our wildlife, especially during these extreme temperatures.

Please help our hedgehogs and the rescues struggling to save them by leaving lots of shallow bowls of fresh water out.

Very very important that we support our hedgehogs and leave out lots of shallow bowls of fresh water.

Another baby arrived this afternoon (82grams male) thought likely to be the sibling of the 90 grams female who arrived on Saturday. The little girl now weighs 105 grams and is enjoying the available buffet. Today’s little boy ate a little before arrival then ate some more here after I’d got rid of his hitch hikers. He had a lot 😩
I’m hoping to place them together so they can keep each other company and hopefully thrive. 🤞
Thanks to Caron and Sarah for delivering them safely to me.

Despite being temporarily closed to new admissions , two little baby girls squeezed in yesterday. One only 90 grams, the other 116 grams. Fortunately both are eating independently and whilst not massive amounts it’s a bonus. Please keep them in your thoughts. ❤️🦔❤️

I’m currently recovering from an accident which left me with a fractured ankle (the reason I’m temporarily closed to new admissions) and this morning I received through the post this lovely illustrated letter from one of my young supporters Azaria (Ze). How lovely is this to receive, along with an update on the release of one of the hogs who came through the rescue, successfully receiving treatment for roundworm and safely released into a lovely support fed garden. Huge thanks to Vanessa for everything she does for the hogs and Ze for being such a compassionate little human. ❤️❤️
