📣Exciting news! Common Threads Festival full programme is here! 🎟️Tickets for all events are now live for this weaving and arts festival.

Over 4 days in September we will be showcasing stories and textile crafts from around the world within a woven ‘living room’ on Sheffield’s main shopping street, The Moor. Join us between:

🪡 11 - 5pm each day
📍The Moor, Sheffield City Centre

🍽️ Between 1 - 2pm each day we’ll also be serving up a hot meal offered on a pay what you can basis.

From panel discussions to workshops sharing skills in basket weaving, natural dyes, clothing alteration and weaving robots, to film screenings, storytelling and wool spinning, Common Threads has activities for every age.

With artists and groups including Asma Kabadeh, Charlie Hill, Jennie Moran, Kerry Lindeque, Pattern Club, and our project partners Higsad Alool Weavers, Re-Water; SunRit Culture Group, Craft Social at Gut Level and the Manor Weavers.

Tickets are offered on a sliding scale - so pay what you can afford, and donate if you can so we can continue to provide free tickets for our community.

Hong Kong Liberation Day Commemoration Ceremony

🕊️ 為悼念1941年香港保衛戰中犧牲的軍人，延續1997年前紀念香港重光的傳統，我們將於今年8月30日在英格蘭中部史德福郡（Staffordshire）的國家紀念花園（National Memorial Arboretum）舉行紀念儀式。

當日將有現役英軍及退役香港義勇軍成員參與，希望讓海內外港人，特別是年輕一代，認識這段香港重要歷史的真相。

🕊️ To remember those who sacrificed their lives during the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941, and to continue the tradition of commemorating Hong Kong Liberation Day before 1997, we will hold a Remembrance Service on Sunday, 30 August 2026 at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire, England.

The event will be attended by serving British military personnel and retired members of the Hong Kong Volunteers, aiming to help the younger generation of Hongkongers around the world recognise the truth of this pivotal chapter in Hong Kong's history.

6月20日，前華裔英兵香港人 袁 Sir 以退伍軍人及RBL Chapeltown Branch Standard Bearer 參加雪埠軍人節部隊軍操！作為英國嘅一份子，多年以來唔少香港人參與英軍並作出貢獻。一齊重溫當日嘅花絮。

On June 20th, Mr. Yuen — a former soldier in the Hong Kong Military Service Corps — took part in the Sheffield Armed Forces Day military parade, serving as a veteran and Standard Bearer for the RBL (Royal British Legion) Chapeltown Branch! As part of Britain, many Hongkongers over the years have served in the British Armed Forces and made contributions. Let's look back at some highlights from that day.

中共入侵香港29年以來，違背承諾破壞香港法治，令香港人失去免於恐懼的自由。昨日下午我哋係The Moor 開街站， #感恩有同路人睇到呼籲而到來一齊派單張及向途人解說，並於下午3點10分，默哀梁健輝先生（2019年7月1晚10點10分）捨身明志，同時亦為香港淪陷29年而哀悼。
唔少本地途人知道我哋係香港人， #會主動上前拎單張，表示支持，亦有人感慨香港本不該轉交中共管治。香港本來係好地方，真可惜！

無論如何，我哋都要繼續努力，當下， #一齊推動呢個國會聯署，關閉倫敦香港經貿辦🔥

[July 1] Street Stand ......Not finished… carry on till the victory

Since the CCP’s took control of Hong Kong for 29 years, it has broken its promises and undermined Hong Kong’s rule of law—leaving Hong Kong people without the freedom to live without fear. Yesterday afternoon, we were at The Moor running a street stand. We’re grateful that there were volunteers came over to hand out leaflets with us and explain the issue to passers-by. At 3:10 pm, we observed a moment of silence for Mr. Leung Kin-fai (on 1 July 2019 at 10:10 pm, he sacrificed himself for fighting for justice and freedom). We also mourned for Hong Kong’s “fall” over these 29 years.

Some local passers-by knew we are HongKongers, so they came over proactively to take leaflets, showing their support. Others expressed regret that Hong Kong was never supposed to be handed over to CCP rule. Hong Kong is supposed to be a good place—it’s really a pity.

No matter what, we have to keep working. Right now, let’s push together for this parliamentary petition and call for the closure of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in London 🔥

【July 1】Street station

For 29 years, the Chinese Communist Party's Government has violated its commitments and shattered Hong Kong’s rule of law—until too many of us have had to live under fear, instead of living free.

Today, we stand in the open to speak up. This afternoon at 2:30 pm, we will be at The Moornholding a street station urging the world not to look away, and to resist CCP interference before it spreads further.

At 3:10 pm, we will observe a moment of silence for Mr. Leung Kin-fai (1 July 2019 — 10:10 pm), who chose sacrifice in the darkest hour—so we could still choose courage. Today is also a solemn mourning for 29 years of Hong Kong’s fall.
